MARCH 2025

FROM THE PARENT PROGRAM DIRECTOR

Happy New Year 2024 graphic
THANK YOU to each and every person who helped us reach our Giving Day goals this year! Lipscomb was blessed with over 4,700 donors ,and for the first time, we surpassed the $3 million mark with gifts totaling over $3.1 million in 24 hours to benefit our students!!

It’s wonderful to have the students back on campus after Spring Break. Whether your child returned home for the break, traveled with friends or participated in a mission trip, I hope their break provided a much-needed time of rest and renewal.

The Lipscomb community is coming off an exciting couple of weeks with our men's and women's basketball teams competing in post-season play. The women's team lost its matchup with Western Illinois in the first round of the WNIT last Thursday; and the men's team faced Iowa State in first-round action in Milwaukee, Illinois, on Friday in the Bisons' second NCAA Tournament appearance. Although both teams came up short of a win on the scoreboard, our basketball teams experienced a tremendous season and represented Lipscomb so well in the spotlight!

As we enter the final stretch of the semester, encourage your student(s) to stay focused and keep up the hard work as they tackle projects and prepare for exams. If your student is facing challenges or could use some extra support, remind them that the Academic Success Center is here to help.

Bison Parent Prayer Gathering image
The Jones Family
Join us at 10:55 a.m. CT on Tuesday, April 1 for the monthly prayer Zoom for our Lipscomb families. You are invited to join us as we get to know other parents, share prayer requests and praises. We know you will be blessed by this time together!
This month's guest speaker will be Jon Jones, a current Lipscomb University parent who also serves as an active duty Naval Chaplain. Jon and Kristen are presently stationed at the United States Merchant Marine Academy located on Long Island, New York. Prior duty stations include the Wounded Warrior Battalion in North Carolina, as well as serving the surface navy out of FL and our Marine Corps artillery community in Okinawa, Japan. Canaan is a junior sociology major and member of Theta Psi, and Jonah is a freshman business major who just pledged Sigma Iota Delta. As recent empty nesters, the Joneses' guilty pleasures now come in the form of Pokémon Go, Antiques Roadshow and Padres baseball!

FINANCIAL AID

For parents of returning students, The Financial Aid office reminds you that continuing student packaging is underway! All students are encouraged to complete their FAFSA as soon as possible. The good news is the process is remarkably smoother than last year, with many students and families finishing their FAFSA in less than 15 minutes!
Tennessee State Grants (TSAA)
For students who receive TSAA funding, timely FAFSA submission is extremely important. To receive priority consideration, students are strongly encouraged to submit a FAFSA as soon as possible before the April 15 deadline. Awards are based on the availability of state funds.

Financial Aid for Summer
Financial Aid is available to assist in offsetting the cost of taking classes during the summer months. Students could qualify to use funds from Federal Loans, Academic scholarship, HOPE Scholarship, Summer PELL funds and Federal Work Study. Most aid requires students to be enrolled in at least six hours across the summer term. Summer term includes any combination (Full Term, Term 1, Term 2  Maymester, Junemester and Julymester, and possibly travel courses).
Visit the Summer Aid page on the Lipscomb website for additional information. The Lipscomb Financial Aid Office is here to provide assistance and resources to help parents and students understand their aid package. Office staff is available Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

CAMPUS NEWS

Fred Gray Lectureship to explore talking politics while keeping faith
In today's polarized world, political discussions can quickly escalate into heated debates, leaving many feeling frustrated or misunderstood. But what if we could engage in these conversations thoughtfully, with respect and empathy, while remaining true to our values and faith?
On April 1, David French (’91), New York Times columnist and Turner Family Distinguished Visiting Professor of Public Policy at Lipscomb University, and Russell Moore, editor-in-chief of Christianity Today, will engage in conversation over how to keep your faith while talking about politics.
In addition, Fred D. Gray, one of the nation’s leading civil rights attorneys and Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient, plans to be in attendance and give remarks at the lecture. Register here.
