Our chapter recently hosted our first industry speaker event, and it was a great success. We were fortunate to welcome four scientists from Eli Lilly and Company for a full day of lab tours, student meetings, a seminar, and a lunch roundtable discussion. Thank you, Aleksandra Antevska, Toya Scaggs, W. Rush Scaggs, and Matthew Walworth for taking the time to engage with our students.
We were thrilled by the strong turnout across all events. Creating opportunities like this was a primary motivation behind starting this chapter, making it especially rewarding to see how well the event was received by students both within and beyond the Chemistry Department.
We look forward to hosting more events like this in the future. Please reach out to us with any further feedback about the event, including other industries you'd like brought to campus. A big thank you to our executive board, pictured here with our visitors, for their hard work in making this day possible.

Take a break, touch some grass, and hang out with fellow graduate students on campus this summer at Recess! All are welcome to come laugh, lounge, and enjoy some midday fun away from the lab. We’ll have picnic blankets, activities, and treats, but feel free to bring your lunch, favorite snacks, crafts, or anything else you’d like to enjoy outdoors.
The standing schedule is Thursdays from 12–1:30 PM on ESB (Engineering and Science Building) lawn. However, the schedule varies depending on the weather, so please join this WhatsApp group to stay updated!
Whether you're in the mood to play, chill, or just soak up the sun, Recess is your midweek excuse to get outside and reset. See you there!

Hannah Richards Awarded Schmidt Science Fellowship |
|
|
|
Dr. Hannah Richards has been named Vanderbilt University's first Schmidt Science Fellow: a remarkable honor recognizing her innovative research and interdisciplinary vision.
During her four years in the Cliffel Lab, Hannah developed electrochemical sensors, applying her skills to advance maternal health monitoring for preterm birth detection. For her chemistry department independent research proposal, Hannah decided to dive headfirst into marine biology, centering her project around sea turtle conservation. This passion served as the foundation for her Schmidt Fellowship application, where she will bring her analytical chemical skills to the Marine Science Laboratory at Florida Atlantic University.
Congratulations, Hannah, on this well-deserved recognition!
