Children’s Minnesota is proud to share that the Minneapolis and St. Paul campuses have recently been redesignated, reflecting the strength of our pediatric trauma system and multidisciplinary approach to caring for children. The Minneapolis campus was reverified as a Level I pediatric trauma center by the American College of Surgeons and is Minnesota’s only Level I pediatric trauma center in a hospital dedicated solely to kids. The St. Paul campus was redesignated as a Level 4 trauma center by the Minnesota Department of Health. Both designations are valid for three years.  

Level I pediatric trauma verification recognizes the Minneapolis campus’ capacity to provide comprehensive trauma care for children with the most complex injuries, supported by pediatric trauma surgeons and trauma advanced practice providers available in-house 24/7.  

St. Paul’s Level 4 redesignation reflects its readiness to provide emergency resuscitation, stabilization and initial care for injured children, with processes in place to expedite transfer to Minneapolis when a higher level of specialized trauma care is required. 

Delivered after just 22 weeks and three days, Rendalisa faced an uphill battle with several ailments. As a result, she spent more than 144 days in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and infant care center at Children’s Minnesota.  

Rendalisa’s maladies included lung disease, an intestinal perforation and more. Thanks to the care of The Kid Experts^® at Children’s Minnesota, she is nearly 2 years old, walking and achieving milestones.

“I’ve often been asked what is my job? What do I do? And I say I get to take care of miracles for a living, and I think Rendalisa is a prime example of that miracle,” said Jennifer Berger, DO, a neonatologist at Children’s Minnesota.

The Legacy Lecture Series is a curated series of lectures made possible by the generous funding of donors in honor of individuals who have played a special part in Children’s Minnesota’s 100-year history. Everyone is welcome to attend, including Children’s Minnesota employees, professional staff members, community providers and community members. All lectures in the series are accredited. Lectures will take place from noon to 1 p.m. at the Children’s Minnesota Minneapolis Education Center. In-person attendance is encouraged, and lunch will be provided while quantities last. Virtual attendance is also an option.
