Dear Graduate School Alumni,
At the Graduate School, our students and faculty are diligently working to ensure this academic year is nothing short of extraordinary! My team continues to enhance the ways that we support our students to be the next exceptional generation of researchers and innovators. I am thrilled to introduce you to some exciting initiatives that have not only enriched our academic environment but also have made significant contributions to the advancement of knowledge.
One notable initiative is the Enhanced Funding Model for Doctoral Education, which we rolled out in spring 2023. The newest component of this funding model is the Candidacy Success Supplement, a $500 supplement awarded to each student upon reaching candidacy, as a celebration of their progress toward degree completion.
This fall, we launched the Vanderbilt-Fisk Postdoctoral Fellowship Program. This program, which aims to diversify the professoriate, is a collaboration between Fisk University and Vanderbilt University. These fellowships provide recent Vanderbilt Ph.D. graduates with opportunities to build their teaching and scholarship portfolios, guided by mentoring from faculty at both institutions. In 2023, we selected three fellows with exceptional records of research and scholarship.
Thank you for your continued support and commitment to the Vanderbilt Graduate School. I look forward to sharing more updates with you throughout the year.
Sincerely,
| |
C. André Christie-Mizell Vice Provost for Graduate Education Dean of the Graduate School Centennial Professor of Sociology
