"I am incredibly honored to be selected as Employee of the Month! I have been part of the Active at Petaluma team for the past year and five months, and it has been an amazing experience. What I love most about working here is the energetic environment and the opportunity to connect with so many great people in our community every day.
Born and raised right here in Petaluma, I have a deep appreciation for our town and the beautiful surrounding areas. I am currently a senior in high school and am counting down the days until graduation on June 5th! Looking ahead, my next big step is focusing on my future career goals, as I plan to dive into the real estate industry, get my license, and work toward building a career in property management and investment.
When I’m not at work or finishing up my schoolwork, I try to spend as much time as possible outdoors. I love being out in nature, going on hikes, and taking in the local scenery, my favorite place to be is Dillon beach. On the creative side, I also love to spend my free time drawing all the different sceneries that I see. Working at Active has been a fantastic chapter of my high school years, and I’m excited to keep growing with the team as I transition into my next chapter after graduation!"

Susan Victor & Rick Lesch
|
We’re delighted to highlight our Members of the Month for June, Susan and Rick!
Susan and Rick have been members of the club since February 2022 and have become a familiar part of our Active community. One of their favorite activities at the club is taking yoga classes, where they believe “every pose should feel like Shavasana.”
The pair keep each other motivated and committed to staying active. “We want to stay in shape and stay healthy (and young or at least fight getting older),” they share. Working out also helps them manage stress. “We don’t feel like it’s a good day if we don’t work out.”
Their consistency at the club has helped them increase their strength and flexibility, not only during exercise but in everyday activities as well. Susan especially enjoys swimming laps in the pool and practicing yoga, while Rick prefers weights, stationary biking, and relaxing in the steam room.
Outside the gym, both Susan and Rick still work part-time and enjoy hobbies like gardening and “over-parenting our adult children.” Susan also spends her time volunteering for Sonoma State, something she truly loves.
This month also marks a special milestone for the couple: their 35th wedding anniversary!
“We love the feeling of community at the gym—seeing the same faces in yoga class or in the pool, joking with the instructors and chatting with the friendly front desk staff,” they add.
Way to go, Susan and Rick! We’re so happy that you are a part of our Active community.

Building Resilience Through Contrast Therapy
|
Contrast therapy—alternating between heat (like saunas, hot showers, or baths) and cold exposure (ice baths, cold showers, or chilly outdoor air) does more than test your grit. This practice helps improve circulation, reduce inflammation, and train your nervous system to adapt to stress.
When you expose your body to controlled temperature changes, your blood vessels constrict and expand, stimulating blood flow and helping your body recover faster after workouts. It also strengthens your stress response, teaching your body to stay calm under pressure—physically and mentally.
