Meet Librarian Julian Lee |
|
|
Julian is very excited to be the new Cataloging & Metadata Librarian at Swarthmore College Libraries. Before joining Swarthmore, he worked as the special collections cataloging librarian at Ocean State Libraries and he previously worked at Yale University and Davidson College. He has a Master's in Library Science from UNC Chapel Hill. Julian enjoys ballet, board games, practicing music, and taking care of his guinea pigs.

Friends Historical Library recently received a donation that included a 1773 manuscript map of Mid-Atlantic Quaker meetings. Curator Jordan Landes could see that the map required attention after spending years in a frame backed with acidic paper and sent it out for conservation. Power the Narrative Through Art: Lenapehoking
|
This exhibition aims to reveal Quaker involvement with the preservation of Lenape culture in Pennsylvania by exploring contents of the Leonore Hollander papers in the Friends Historical Library. Our timeline of resources concludes with a feature of Denise Bright Dove Ashton-Dunkley, a modern Lenape artist whose work blends climate justice and Lenape cultural knowledge to paint a fresh picture of responsible land stewardship.

Julia (they/she) is from New York City and studying history and environmental studies. They work as a Library Associate in Friends Historical Library, and they’re an organizer on campus with Jewish Voice for Peace, SJP, and C4. They love spending most of their time in libraries and bookstores and have strong opinions about books and music. One of their favorite places on earth is the Lesbian Herstory Archives in Brooklyn and they collect lesbian pulp fiction.

What are you reading these days?
I'm currently reading Wild Geese by Soula Emmanuel and Everything for Everyone: An Oral History of the New York Commune, 2052-2072 by M.E. O’Brien and Eman Abelhadi. For one of my classes I'm reading Wayward Lives, Beautiful Experiments by Sadiya Hartman which is absolutely life-changing.
