FRANCOPHONIE IN LOS ANGELES

The celebration of A Week of French Cinema starts next week! The Théâtre Raymond Kappaz (TRK) will be holding screenings of nine movies over the course of six nights to highlight French-language cinema in collaboration with the Consulates of Switzerland, Belgium, Canada, the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, the Quebec Government Office, and the Lycée Français de Los Angeles.
Each ticket includes a free pre-screening cheese and charcuterie tasting at 7:00 PM, an hour before the film screening begins, as well as access to an exhibition of works by Swiss actor and photographer Carlos Leal.

Tickets for one night are $5 each and a pass for the whole week is $25.

The Week of French Language Cinema will kick off with the screening of the Swiss film Presque (Beautiful Minds). Inspired by the award-winning author and philosopher Alexandre Jollien’s real-life experiences of being born with cerebral palsy, this touching tale follows the story of a funeral director and of a bright delivery man with cerebral palsy who embark on a journey in a hearse to the south of France. Throughout their unconventional road trip, the two men develop an unlikely friendship, reflect on their differences, and discover new perspectives.

LOCARNO FILM FESTIVAL

The Locarno Film Festival in Los Angeles starts next week at the Acropolis Cinema in Los Angeles. The four-day festival will feature eleven films from Locarno's most recent film festival in Switzerland and will include several prize-winning movies. Returning for its sixth year with the support of the Consulate General of Switzerland in San Francisco, the film festival will showcase Locarno's adventurous and wide-randing sense of cinema.

SWISS FILM & TALKS at the

BERLIN & BEYOND FILM FESTIVAL

In collaboration with the Consulate General of Switzerland in San Francisco, the Berlin & Beyond Film Festival will screen the Swiss film Die goldenen Jahre (Golden Years) (2022). This comedy touches on deeper themes of aging, sexuality, and identity while following the story of a recently retired couple who are struggling with finding meaning and remaining true to themselves in the face of life changes.

The screening will be followed by a session of the Swiss Consulate's Swiss Film & Talks, which will feature a Q&A with the film's screenwriter Petra Volpe.

Based in Berlin and New York, Petra Volpe is a Swiss-Italian screenwriter, director, and creator.

She won the 2017 Swiss Film Award for "Best Screenplay" for her film The Divine Order.

ZURICH CHAMBER ORCHESTRA

The Zurich Chamber Orchestra will be performing along the East and West Coasts this spring, presenting American audiences with three diverse concert programs. Under the musical direction of Daniel Hope, the orchestra will be performing works ranging from Mendelssohn to Gerschwin to Max Richter's Recomposed: Vivaldo -- The Four Seasons.
The Western leg of the Orchestra's North American tour will consist two concerts in California. One at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa (March 25), and another at Zellerbach Hall in Berkeley (March 26).

DISCO DOOM

The avant-garde Zurich-based rock group Disco Doom will be touring the U.S. in March and April. The group has been making music for over 20 years and will be promoting their new album Mt. Surreal while supporting the American indie rock band Built to Spill.
