Here is one strategy if your child may have melt downs after holding it together all day at school. Adapt it to fit your child, your home.
Often children come home from school and totally melt down. That's because they finally feel safe to let all the emotion out. AND it can be overwhelming to manage as the adult at home.
20 - 20 - 20
1. 20 minutes of CALMING
This is about resetting after an over stimulating day. It could be reading, swinging in a swing, coloring - just calm and quiet. You can also offer a snack here to help regulate blood sugar.
2. 20 minutes CONNECTING
Next spend time reconnecting with each other, no phones or screens. No multitasking just 1:1 attention to fill their cup.
3. 20 minutes of CHORES
In your home this might be getting ready for dinner or doing homework. What ever task is needed to get finished up.
