I am honored to serve as Ohio University's Interim Dean of Students and grateful to step into this role just as we welcomed many of you during our final weeks of Bobcat Student Orientation.
As we enter the second week of the semester, I want to remind everyone of what it means to be a Bobcat and the responsibility we all have to create a safe, welcoming, learning environment. Whether understanding ways to for safety, we all play a part in helping students and foster a culture of campus respect and safety.
Whether your Bobcat is new or returning, this is a big time of transition. Make a communication plan that works for both of you as they build their independence. Please don't hesitate to get in touch if I can be of support.

At Ohio University, well-being encompasses all we need to grow, engage, connect, and succeed in both life and learning. THRiVE is OHIO’s ongoing well-being initiative, designed to help every Bobcat engage with health and well-being in meaningful and manageable ways.
THRiVE Week is a chance to explore OHIO resources from basic needs to group fitness, connect with other students, and feel empowered to take on the semester. Students can attend the Mental Health Resource Fair, create their own Survive and THRiVE plan for graduate school, get creative at Marti & Stewie craft night, and more!

Students have a new dining option! Shively Commons opened this semester, allowing students to pick up their meals quickly and easily through a locker system. They can order through the OHIO Eats app.

| Bobcat Creators help showcase Ohio University's campus and what it means to be a Bobcat through content on Ohio University’s social media accounts that highlight campus life and culture. Applications close September 14.

Mold and mildew prevention |
When it comes to mold and mildew, prevention is key. The CDC states that molds are found in virtually every environment and can thrive in warm, humid places. If there are concerns about mold in any campus buildings, including residence halls, we want to remediate the situation. Students should contact Facilities Management and Safety at 740.593.2911. They’re available 24/7 and can quickly respond to their needs the same day (and no later than 24 hours).

| Fire Safety: Know What to Do |
Fire safety is everyone’s responsibility. Knowing what can trigger an alarm, keeping exits clear, and following fire safety guidelines can help keep our community safe. Remember: students should never ignore a fire alarm, disable a smoke detector, or remain inside when an alarm sounds. Support student mental health |
As part of our comprehensive prevention efforts, we offer gatekeeper training on campus, such as Bobcats Who Care and QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer), to help students recognize warning signs and connect others with help. Families can get involved too — in a recent survey, 58% of OHIO students said they would talk to a family member if they were experiencing serious emotional distress. QPR and other suicide prevention training is available virtually and free to Ohio residents through the Ohio Suicide Prevention Foundation.

Ohio University is expanding its Spring Commencement ceremonies to three undergraduate ceremonies to better serve graduating students and their guests. The additional undergraduate ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. on Sunday, May 2, 2027.
