UCO to Graduate Nearly 1,000 Students at Fall Commencement Ceremonies |
UCO will celebrate the achievements of approximately 937 graduates during the Fall 2024 Commencement Ceremonies Dec. 13-14, in Hamilton Field House.

The ceremonies can also be watched via UCO on Demand and the official UCO Facebook page. The live webcast will begin 15 minutes prior to each ceremony.

In Memoriam: Earl K. Hefley |
Earl K. Hefley died Dec. 1. Hefley earned his master’s degree in education, specializing in instrumental music, from Central State University in 1972. Hefley began his career at the university in 1987 as an adjunct clarinet professor and transitioned to a full-time instructor role in 2014, teaching many online sections of Music Appreciation. “His contributions to music education and the Central community were immeasurable, and his passion for music and teaching left a lasting impression on countless student sand colleagues,” said College of Fine Arts and Design Dean Charleen Weidell.
The service is at 1 p.m., Monday, Dec. 16, at the Church of the Servant in Oklahoma City. Viewing is 2-4 p.m. at Vondell Smith Funeral Home.
Donations in his memory can be made to the UCO Foundation.

UCO’s ELA to Host Inaugural Chair Summit, Jan. 31 |
Educators' Leadership Academy (ELA), in coordination with the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education, will host the inaugural ELA Chair Summit from 9 a.m.-4 p.m., Friday, Jan. 31, 2025. Designed exclusively for department chairs, assistant chairs and deans, this one-day event will tackle academic management's complex and evolving challenges.
Highlights include a keynote by Chris Jochum, Ph.D., author of “The Department Chair: A Practical Guide to Effective Leadership.”
The cost to attend is $100 for those who register by Dec. 20. Registration includes breakfast, lunch, parking, keynote presentations, breakout sessions and networking opportunities.

Empowerment for Excellence Scholarship |
UCO's Empowerment for Excellence (E4E) will offer a scholarship to support engagement in education, network and mentoring processes that leads to the enhanced awareness, empowerment and transformation of women.
The scholarships will be awarded to UCO faculty and staff members who are seeking funds to cover the costs of professional development in their career path. These scholarships are awarded as a reimbursement of recipients' expense up to $500.
Applications are due by 11:59 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 26. Learn more and apply online.

Fall Commissioning Ceremony |
The UCO Army ROTC will hold its annual Officer Commissioning Ceremony at 9 a.m., Friday, Dec. 13, in the Nigh University Center, Constitution Hall.
Family and friends of the newly commissioned officers, as well as faculty and staff are welcome to attend.
