As scams become more sophisticated, we all must remain vigilant
Editorial by Rhode Island State Representatives Victoria Gu and Julie A. Casimiro (SB 2504)
"Currently, there are more than 120 crypto ATMs in Rhode Island’s convenience stores, laundromats, liquor stores, smoke shops and other establishments. They allow people to deposit cash and easily convert it into cryptocurrency, and they look a lot like regular ATMs. These machines have no transaction limits on them, making them extremely dangerous for our elderly residents being directed to use them in the process of being scammed. There is no limit to the amount a scammer can take from our residents in the transactions and once the process is complete, there is virtually no way for the money to be recovered after the scam is revealed. FBI data shows that Rhode Islanders have lost a total of $2,245,844 to cryptocurrency scams in 2023."

Projections From Crypto OG Arthur Hayes
“The June central banking fireworks kicked off this week by the BOC and ECB rate cuts will catapult crypto out of the northern hemispheric summer doldrums. This was not my expected base case. I thought the fireworks would start in August, right around when the Fed hosts its Jackson Hole symposium. That is typically the venue where abrupt policy changes are announced going into autumn." Henry Jake Foreman, Co-Founder of IndigiDAO, a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation-funded project, leverages Web3 to empower Indigenous entrepreneurs.
"And so, we’re doing this by creating a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO), which we’ve called IndigiDAO. It’s a way to create a community of people with shared values and cultural practices, and pool their energy and resources to give them more control, self-determination, and sovereignty. By bringing in modern technologies like blockchain so the groups can track the exchange of items and information and other decisions, or digital tokens to create more value for their goods and services."
