Tony Lucas, AVP for Business and Administrative Services, to leave Sac State
It is with mixed emotions that I announce Tony Lucas, Associate Vice President (AVP) for Business and Administrative Services, has accepted an offer at the University of California, Los Angeles to serve as their executive director for Events and Transportation. Tony will be leaving Sacramento State as of June 30.
Tony has a rich and lengthy work history, with appointments at two different CSU campuses. While at CSU Monterey Bay, Tony oversaw the campus service center, managed networking and computing, and served as the director of administrative systems and quality. At Sac State, Tony served as the director for administrative services within the Police Department (PD) from 2007 to 2009. After a brief hiatus, he returned to campus and the Police Department, this time as the director of business and finance. From there, Tony flourished as the senior director for UTAPS and university support services, and was then promoted to associate vice president for Business and Administrative Services in 2019.
While in all of his positions with Sacramento State, Tony embodied the ABA values of respect, innovation, and integrity. He was integral in guiding many of his departments through technology led transformations, including upgrading the PD dispatch systems, implementing virtual permitting for UTAPS, and employing web to print capabilities for University Print and Mail. He led the task force to develop and implement the Sac State Bicycle plan, leading Sacramento State being designated as a Bicycle Friendly University at the Silver level. Tony was also instrumental in the construction of the Welcome Center and Parking Structure 5 and was vital in the development of California Mobility Center, collaborating with campus partners to help stand up the Office of Clean Energy and Mobility Technologies.
The Office of the Vice President for Administration/CFO will temporarily oversee the departments under the
Business and Administrative Services unit. In the meantime, please join me in thanking Tony for his significant contributions to our campus and congratulating him in his new role at UCLA.
