SoCal Extreme Heat Research Hub |
|
|
Hello and welcome to the Spring 2024 edition of the SoCal Extreme Heat Research Hub newsletter! As we start feeling the effects of May Gray here in San Diego, our researchers are busy at work preparing for the inevitable start of the hot season.
In the past few months, we've welcomed a new team member, had several outreach and education events, and are hard at work on papers and preparing for summer activities. This newsletter highlights some of the Heat Hub's recent activities as well as a special spotlight blog written by College Corps fellow and science communicator Nicole Fassina, which focuses on the Hub's education work, and in particular, the Cooler Communities curriculum mentioned in our previous newsletter.
We hope you enjoy reading about what we've been up to. As always, we welcome you to check out our website and specifically our blog page, where you can catch our updates all in one place. We also have a newsletter page where you can find past newsletters that you may have missed.

Nicole Fassina, our very own Heat Hub science communicator and College Corps fellow, dove deep into the topic of K-12 Education for this quarter's spotlight blog. Featuring interviews with Nan Renner (Heat Hub co-PI and Senior Director of Strategic Partnerships at Birch Aquarium) and SDUSD STEAM Team leader Zoë Randall, in this blog, Nicole tells us all about the Heat Hub's "Education to Broaden Participation" theme area, highlighting the philosophy and motivation behind the Hub's education goals, while focusing in detail on one of our biggest projects: the Cooler Communities curriculum, which has been implemented at 84 elementary schools across San Diego. Be sure to give this one a read! You can find it on our blog here.
