Orange County Government Announces Winter Holiday Closings and Service Alterations |
Orange County Government will be closed Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, Dec. 24-26, to observe the winter holidays. Orange County Government will also be closed on Thursday, Jan.1, 2026, for the New Year’s holiday.
Please note the following closings and exceptions:
Solid Waste:

Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2025: Regular recycling collection. The Landfill/Disposal Centers, Waste and Recycling Centers, and Administrative Office will be closed.
- Thursday, Dec. 25, 2025: No recycling collection. Thursday recycling will be collected on Friday, Dec. 26. The Landfill/Disposal Centers, Waste and Recycling Centers, and Administrative Office will be closed.

Friday, Dec. 26, 2025: Friday recycling will be collected on Saturday, Dec. 27. The Administrative Office will be closed.
- Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026: No recycling collection. For the remainder of the week, recycling collection will be delayed by one day. The Landfill/Disposal Centers, Waste and Recycling Centers, and Administrative Office will be closed.

Animal Services: Will be closed from Wednesday, Dec. 24 through Friday, Dec. 26 as well as on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026. They ask that, as always, people call 9-1-1 if they have an animal-related emergency when they are closed, such as animal bites to humans or exposure to rabies.
9-1-1 Services: Will be available. Please only call 9-1-1 to report emergencies.
Library: The Orange County Public Library and the Southern Branch Library in Carrboro will be closed from Wednesday, Dec. 24 through Friday, Dec. 26. The Orange County Public Library and the Southern Branch Library will be open regular hours during the weekend. Both libraries will be closed on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026.
