Study reveals global flood risk
|
A UTA hydrologist’s study in the Nature journal Scientific Data provides the first-ever global estimate of human destruction of natural floodplains. The study can help guide future development in a way that can restore and conserve vital floodplain habitats that are critical to wildlife, water quality, and reducing flood risk for people.

In a column for The Conversation, Karen Matsler, assistant professor of instruction, writes about how she is leading a national effort, funded by the National Science Foundation, to introduce the concepts of quantum information science into high school curriculums. The column also was picked up by Yahoo News.

New employee compliance training
|
UTA compliance training for new employees will resume Wednesday, Sept. 13, when new employees and student employees hired as of June 5, 2023, will be notified of their assignment to compliance training. Thereafter, recently hired employees and student employees will be assigned to compliance training within two weeks of their hire date.
UTA compliance training assigned through University Compliance Services provides essential information for both new employees and returning employees. This year’s course includes, health and safety topics, interactive cybersecurity, and active-threat-response modules. All full-time employees must also enter the Outside Activity Portal to declare whether they have outside activities to report. Annual compliance training for employees and student employees who completed compliance training during the previous academic year will be announced later this month.
