Set, hut! Nguyen named UTA flag football coach
|
Bringing a wealth of experience, Melinda Nguyen has been named the first-ever head coach of UTA's women's flag football program.

Why it matters: Nguyen will make history as the leader of Texas' first womenâs flag football team at an NCAA Division I school.
Â
Going deeper: Nguyen joins UTA after three seasons as the head coach at Kansas Wesleyan, where she went 49-17, going to the NAIA Flag Football Finals each season. She has also served as an offensive coordinator for the Philippines womenâs national team and the assistant coach for the U.S. 15U junior national team that won a silver medal in the 2025 Junior International Cup.Â

UTA and Fort Worth Independent School District launched Direct to UTA: College Ready Career Bound, guaranteeing early admission for eligible students.Â

Why it matters: This partnership is designed to expand college access, promote educational equity, and strengthen pathways from high school to higher education for Fort Worth students.Â
