The Watering Bowl is an outdoor dog park and bar in South Austin owned and operated by UTA alumna Leslie Paetschow ('12 BA, Anthropology). As “barktender” and “rufferee” at the park, Paetschow gets to see dogs of all sorts during her work week.

Black excellence

UTA hosted a celebration of African American culture and achievement to honor this year’s Black graduates ahead of the University's commencement ceremonies. As students crossed the stage, they received Kente stoles from faculty members.

In remembrance

The College of Engineering announced Mo-Shing Chen, professor emeritus of electrical engineering, passed away on Sunday, April 30, in Taiwan. He spent his entire academic career at UTA, retiring in 2003 after spending 41 years at the University.

Deadline today

Join the Office of Talent, Culture, and Inclusion and your fellow Mavericks on Monday, May 22, for the 2023 Blazing Race at Brazos Park. There will be fun activities onsite for employees to de-stress and get active. Fill out the Blazing Race registration form to enter your team of two to six people by Thursday, May 18, to secure a spot and meal pass.

Password management survey

The Office of Information Technology (OIT) is reviewing the password management needs of the campus and what employees are currently using to meet that need. Complete the Password Management Survey by Friday, May 19.

Wellness Wednesday

Discover tools for coping with, identifying, and expressing a wide range of emotions at Wellness Wednesday on May 24 at 12 p.m. in Trinity Hall 104. Participants must register in advance. For accommodations, contact wellness@uta.edu.

Early release on May 26

The Office of Talent, Culture, and Inclusion has prepared instructions for employees and managers on how to record the early release on Friday, May 26, in TCP.

Staff Development Conference

Register early for the Staff Development Conference on Monday, June 5, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. at the Sheraton Arlington Hotel. The conference offers professional development workshops and networking opportunities for UTA staff members.

Huffaker transitions to research and innovation

Diana Huffaker, chair of the Department of Electrical Engineering, will take the newly-developed position of associate vice president for research and innovation starting June 1. Dr. Huffaker's diverse experiences as an academic leader will strengthen UTA's research impact as a Carnegie R-1 Institution.

Free rides on RAPID

Faculty and staff are eligible to receive free rides on the Arlington RAPID self-driving shuttles for a limited time. Log in to the Via app with your UTA email, then request a ride in the downtown or campus service zone during normal operating hours Monday-Friday, 12-6 p.m.

Remote work agreements

A current remote work agreement is required for anyone who works remotely or is planning to participate in the flexible summer hours program. Summer remote work agreements are due before Monday, June 5, and the form should be updated every time there is a change to your remote work hours or upon expiration. UTA Alumni Relations invites alumni to connect with fellow Mavericks at Milagro Taco Cantina in Dallas on Thursday, June 8, 5-7 p.m. RSVP to attend.

Disability survey

Faculty who have administered or are currently administering accommodations through the Student Access and Resource Center are encouraged to participate in a survey on how UTA can improve accommodations for students and professors.

Nessus installation

Thursday, May 25, OIT will remotely install Nessus, a security scanning tool, on all UTA-owned devices. You will not notice any changes to your device after installation. Nessus will silently perform periodic security scans. If you believe installing Nessus will interfere with your job duties, submit a security exception request.

Network Switch Refresh

The Office of Information Technology is updating UTA’s network infrastructure across campus. The project involves building-by-building activity after regular business hours. To view when your building is impacted, visit the project website, which will be updated as the project progresses.
