We’re thrilled to invite you to an exclusive webinar diving deep into the powerful new research on the Kindergarten to College (K2C) program!

Last year, we shared the quantitative success of K2C—like closing 30% of the college enrollment gap for underrepresented students. Now, we have the human stories that explain what this success means for students and families.

Join us to go beyond the numbers and discover the true impact of an early college savings account on a student’s entire future. The program's evaluators from Summitlab Consulting Group and the University of Michigan will lead this webinar, sharing key findings from the new report based on in-depth interviews with K2C students and parents, as well as updated impact data, to show exactly how K2C benefits our students.

Since its launch in 2011, K2C has opened savings accounts for every K-12 public school student in San Francisco to help build a path toward higher education. For the first graduating cohort of students who started kindergarten with a K2C account, K2C students were 6% more likely to enroll in college overall, and underrepresented students were 12% more likely to enroll in college, closing 30% of the college enrollment gap between underrepresented students and those from represented groups. Now, we have powerful new insights into how this early investment is paying off.

What We Learned from the Class of 2023

In a new report, researchers highlight findings from interviews with students and families from K2C's first graduating class. The findings are clear: K2C is making a real difference.

Key Findings

1. K2C fostered college dreams. Starting early, even with a small amount, can help students build big dreams. The program helped families talk about college, which made students feel more confident and determined to go.

"K2C sends a message that kindergarten is the time to start thinking about college, at least you know, financially. So, the sooner you start, the more you will have saved."
- Ophelia, K2C parent

2. K2C made it easier to save for future education. K2C effectively supported families in saving, regardless of their income level. The incentives served as a great motivator, helping families build a small but significant fund for their child’s future.

“When a child is going to college, like every little helps, it might be like $50 but that $50 could feed you for a week. It could buy a textbook, it could help you get to school. It could buy, you know, a transport. So, yeah, it felt good to have that opportunity.”
- Chloe, K2C parent

3. K2C made paying for college feel less overwhelming. Knowing the K2C money was there and simple to get made a real difference in reducing financial stress during the college transition.

"That was the easiest process I've ever done. I think you filled out a form. They asked, "How do you want your payment?" and then you got it within an amount of time, which was quick. Wish financial aid was that quick!" - Timika, K2C graduate
