Dean's Note

I am delighted to greet you as the new dean of the College of Arts and Science. As you know, I served as interim dean last year and have served Vanderbilt University for more than 40 years in a variety of research, teaching, and leadership roles. During that time, I have found that one of the features that distinguishes us from our peer universities, and a primary reason for my long-standing dedication, is the incredibly strong sense of community and collaboration that shapes all that we do. As you will see in the video below, I’m not the only person who feels this way and I trust that you have felt it as part of our community. A&S is fueled by this connectivity; it enables us to achieve even greater accomplishments and discoveries.

There is tremendous positive energy across campus this month as we welcome students and faculty, new and returning, and kick off a new academic year. I am excited about the promising opportunities ahead for the college, and greatly appreciate the support of our A&S community, near and far.

My best,
Timothy P. McNamara
