Apply now to join the cohort of the 2026 Orange County Government Academy, a comprehensive program giving residents an inside look at how county government works. The program begins Wednesday, Feb. 25, and concludes with a graduation ceremony on Tuesday, April 21, at the Whitted Human Services Center in Hillsborough.

Orange County Government Winter Holiday Closings and Service Alterations |

| Orange County Government will be closed Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, Dec. 24-26, to observe the winter holidays. Orange County Government will also be closed on Thursday, Jan.1, 2026, for the New Year’s holiday. Please note the following closings and exceptions:
Solid Waste:

- Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2025: Regular recycling collection. The Landfill/Disposal Centers, Waste and Recycling Centers, and Administrative Office will be closed.

Thursday, Dec. 25, 2025: No recycling collection. Thursday recycling will be collected on Friday, Dec. 26. The Landfill/Disposal Centers, Waste and Recycling Centers, and Administrative Office will be closed.
- Friday, Dec. 26, 2025: Friday recycling will be collected on Saturday, Dec. 27. The Administrative Office will be closed.

Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026: No recycling collection. For the remainder of the week, recycling collection will be delayed by one day. The Landfill/Disposal Centers, Waste and Recycling Centers, and Administrative Office will be closed.

| The Central Pines Regional Council recognized the Crisis Assistance Response and Engagement (CARE) Team with the 2025 Rooted in Results Award, honoring an outstanding project that strengthens multiple communities.
The CARE Team is a partnership among the Chapel Hill Police Department, Carrboro Police Department, and Orange County.
Launched in May 2024, the team provides a therapeutic, holistic response to non-emergency calls involving behavioral and mental health needs, substance use, intellectual and developmental disabilities, and low-level offenses that do not require a law enforcement response.
