UTA recognized by the U.S. Department of Education
|
UTA has been named a winner in the inaugural Postsecondary Success Recognition Program, a U.S. Department of Education initiative. President Jennifer Cowley accepted the award in person in Washington, D.C.
In a LinkedIn post, Dr. Cowley wrote, “We were the only graduate-level university in the U.S. to win, and it's further proof that UTA is a unicorn in that we have the academic credentials of a top national research university while remaining accessible to students from all backgrounds.”

UTA’s Emerging Mavericks program was established last spring to support students who have aged out of the foster care system or experienced homelessness. The program offers a vital network of resources, including temporary housing, career counseling, academic support, and community-building opportunities, enabling students to prioritize their studies and personal growth.

| UTA powers domestic magnet manufacturing innovation
|
UTA has been awarded a $1.3 million grant to develop a more efficient process for sourcing rare earth elements needed to produce high-performance magnets. Led by physicist J. Ping Liu, the project aims to make the mining of these critical materials more cost-efficient and environmentally sustainable.

The Center for Distance Education is launching a new Canvas training initiative for UTA faculty and staff. This comprehensive course consists of step-by-step tutorials and short, informative videos to help you use Canvas more effectively. The course will teach you how to add course content; create assignments, discussions, and quizzes; use the gradebook; communicate with your students; and more. As you complete each module, you will earn a badge signifying a strong understanding of the Canvas tools covered in that module. These credentials can be added to your CV and your LinkedIn page. Learn the basics about service learning and UTA’s community engagement initiative at a Service Learning FastTrack Workshop Thursday, Jan. 30, 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. in Room 105 of Trinity Hall. Speakers will discuss examples of service learning courses, how to connect with community agencies, and effective methods of conducting student reflection.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) E. Kika De La Garza Fellowship Program is taking applications. The program introduces faculty and staff from Hispanic-Serving Institutions to the vast array of USDA resources available to them and their students. The fellowships take place during the summer of 2025, and applications are due by Thursday, March 6.
