Malawi was at one time a vital part of British trade activity in Africa. British missionaries were very active until the late 19th century. Malawi became an independent nation in 1964. The Church of the Nazarene established work here in 1957. Because of the high mortality rate due to HIV/AIDS, Malawi, like its neighbors, has a majority population between the ages of 25 and 54 (in Malawi, this is nearly 68% of the population). This means that there is considerable focus on connecting with a younger demographic, especially by developing communications systems and strategies to serve the church today and in the future. Recently, this took on a new reality when a group of Nazarene IT professionals went to Malawi to launch a new system that will connect those preparing for ministry and extend the reach of the Church of the Nazarene for years to come.

Bridging the Gap: How Global IT Partnerships is Transforming Ministry in Malawi
A remarkable transformation has taken place at the Nazarene Theological College of Central Africa (NTCCA) in Lilongwe. Once a campus without WiFi or network connectivity, NTCCA is now fully connected thanks to a recent initiative by the Church of the Nazarene's Global IT Partnerships. This groundbreaking achievement is a direct result of the generosity and collaboration of supporters like you.

On August 14, the Global IT team returned from Malawi after deploying their first-ever Starlink system at NTCCA, and the results have far exceeded expectations. What was once a disconnected campus is now empowered with campus-wide connectivity, enabling students, professors, and church leaders to access resources, collaborate, and train in ways never before possible.
But the impact goes far beyond just technology. As the principal, registrar, and academic dean of NTCCA saw the doors that this new technology opened, they began to envision a future of greater outreach and discipleship. God’s presence has been deeply felt as new strategies and plans are forming to mentor and train the next generation of pastors in Malawi. With over 600 churches in the region and a critical shortage of pastors, this new connectivity is more than just a convenience—it’s a lifeline.

Through this new technology, NTCCA professors are now equipped to train and disciple pastors remotely, helping to meet the growing needs of the Church of the Nazarene across Malawi. The ripple effect of this project will be felt in congregations and communities throughout the country as more leaders are empowered to spread the gospel and build Christlike disciples.
This milestone was made possible through the seamless partnership between Global IT Partnerships, donors, and a dedicated team of students and leaders from Point Loma Nazarene University. Together, they not only brought cutting-edge technology to NTCCA but also provided the tools for spiritual growth and leadership development in a region that desperately needs it.
This initiative in Malawi stands as a powerful example of how generosity, technology, and faith can come together to create lasting change.
