EDUCATION DEPARTMENT DISMISSES CIVIL RIGHTS CASE COMPLAINTS
The Education Department’s Office for Civil Rights (OCR) dismissed more than 3,400 complaints from mid-March to the end of June. In court filings and public statements, department officials have stated that the layoffs are meant to reduce waste in the agency and that OCR is able to continue its statutorily required functions and that the dismissals were “consistent with OCR’s Case Processing Manual.”
