On Friday, April 10, at 10 a.m., the community is invited to wear blue and join Orange County Social Services staff in planting blue pinwheels, which represent the bright future that every child deserves. The pinwheels – the national symbol of child abuse prevention – will be on display during the month of April in recognition of Child Abuse Prevention Month.
"Our goal is to make sure that all children grow up happy, healthy, and prepared to succeed in supportive families and communities," said Orange County Social Services Director Lindsey Shewmaker. "That’s why our caring staff work every day to protect children and support parents and caregivers.”
Strengthening Families
In addition to providing child and adult protective services, the Orange County Department of Social Services (OCDSS) plays a vital role in strengthening families by addressing their everyday needs. The department offers a wide range of resources designed to support stability and well-being, including programs that help combat food insecurity, provide access to affordable childcare, and ensure individuals and families receive necessary medical assistance.
OCDSS also focuses on empowering residents through employment and training opportunities that promote long-term self-sufficiency. By connecting community members with tools and support systems that foster economic stability, the department remains committed to enhancing the overall quality of life for individuals and families throughout Orange County—an essential part of preventing child abuse and building stronger, healthier communities.
