| A Call to Action: Join Us TOMORROW at the Food & Faith Summit
|
We are united by a shared purpose: to care for our neighbors—especially those in need. In Dane County, the need is urgent. Food insecurity is on the rise and as federal, state, and local resources dwindle, the responsibility to ensure our community is fed falls more heavily on us all.
This is a critical moment. Now, more than ever, we need faith institutions to step up and strengthen our community's food system.
On September 11 from 1-4 PM, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, we invite you to a multi-faith gathering: the Food & Faith Summit. This is not just a meeting; it's a strategic brainstorming session to discuss and act on our shared mandate to ensure food is a human right.
During the summit, the Dane County Food Action Plan team will present findings and strategy for building a more EQUITABLE, HEALTHY, VIBRANT, RESILIENT, SUSTAINABLE, and COLLABORATIVE local food system. We will then open the floor to you—the leaders of our faith communities—to explore collaborative opportunities to make this a reality.
Whether your institution is already engaged in growing, distributing, or preparing food, or if you are looking for new ways to contribute, this summit is for you. Together, we will:
-
Share about the vital work already happening in our community.
- Identify points of collaboration and synergy.
- Inspire creative and innovative approaches to solving food insecurity.
Please join us and lend your voice, your vision, and your commitment to this essential conversation. Your partnership is crucial to building a Dane County where no one goes hungry.
We look forward to continuing these vital conversations with you! See below for another event and view our calendar for future community events.

Key Updates From the Food Waste Sector
|
In recent years, attention is increasingly being focused on the food waste component of our current food system, though there is still a long way to go to shore up this part of the process. Locally, there are many Dane County organizations working hard to not only reduce food system waste, but also to use valuable excess food products to alleviate food insecurity in our community.

Healthy Food for All collects local produce from area farms and surplus-prepared food from local catering and retail operations. We distribute this high-quality, but highly perishable food to pantries, meal sites, and directly into low-income neighborhoods.
