Tropical Storm Chantal left a significant mark on our community. The Tropical Storm Chantal community giving fund is dedicated to supporting local recovery efforts across Orange County and the towns of Carrboro, Chapel Hill, and Hillsborough.
This fund is a collaborative effort between the county and the towns to ensure donated funds are prioritized for critical needs and equitably distributed across the county. Your contribution will provide essential resources and services in the following areas:

- Emergency housing assistance for displaced families

Food security and meal distribution programs
- Mental health support and counseling services
- Restoration of public services and infrastructure
- Small business recovery grants

The Town of Chapel Hill Economic Development team, in partnership with Capital Area Workforce Development, is hosting a free event to connect employees impacted by the storm with workforce experts.

The NCWorks Mobile Unit will be onsite from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM for help with NCWorks.gov registration, resumes, and job listings.
Employers impacted by the storm are also welcome to attend.

Danielle Carman Named Orange County Criminal Justice Resource Director |

Orange County has named Danielle Carman as its next criminal justice resource director. In this role, Carman will manage all programs in the Criminal Justice Resource Department and work to support people affected by the criminal justice system, while improving communication and teamwork among the county’s criminal justice partners. She will begin her new role with the county on August 11.

Tipping Fees Waived for Storm Recovery Through August 9 |

| In response to Tropical Storm Chantal, Orange County Solid Waste is waiving all tipping fees for construction and demolition debris from impacted properties—effective immediately through August 9.

Uproar Festival of Public Art returns August 1- 23, 2025. Uproar will bring 60 pieces of vibrant artwork to Orange County. Making Uproar 2025 takes community support. The Orange County Arts Commission is asking for 2,025 donations of $25 to keep Uproar roaring in our community and spread the JOY of the arts.

In support of our unsheltered residents, Orange County and its community partners are hosting a special pop-up event where individuals can connect with resources and get support, including medical services, behavioral health resources, dental care, pet care, help with housing intakes and benefits and more.
The event will take place on July 22, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the parking lot of University Baptist Church, 100 S. Columbia St., Chapel Hill.

Opioid Settlement Funds Community Meeting on August 16 |
The Orange County Opioid Advisory Committee invites community members to attend the Second Annual Opioid Settlement Funds Community Meeting on Saturday, August 16, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Freedom House Recovery Center, located at 140 New Stateside Drive, Chapel Hill. This free event is open to the public.
The meeting offers an opportunity for Orange County residents to learn how opioid settlement funds are being used to support local recovery, prevention, and harm reduction efforts.
