Celebrating 130 years, UTA Office of the President, Jennifer Cowley, Ph.D.

Dear Mavericks,

No matter where you are on your Maverick journey—finishing your first semester, gearing up for summer classes, or getting ready to cross the stage at commencement—I want to take a moment to celebrate the strides we’ve made together this year and all the promise that lies ahead.

This semester has asked a lot out of us, in ways big and small. It’s called for creativity, flexibility, and the grit and determination for which Mavericks are known. Through it all, what stands out most is your commitment to your goals—your ability to stay focused, keep moving forward, and support one another along the way.

One of the most meaningful milestones this semester has been the the expansion of our Blaze Forward program this fall to cover tuition and mandatory fees for eligible students whose families earn $100,000 or less. That means even more Mavericks can access a life-changing education—an achievement that speaks to the heart of our mission.

We also opened our new Fraternity & Sorority Life Community Center, a vibrant space for connection, leadership, and community. And with continued growth in high-demand fields like nursing, science, and social work, it’s clear our students choose UTA because they believe in the impact we can make—not just on campus, but in the world.

If you’ve noticed the banners around campus, you already know: This year marks UTA’s 130th anniversary. One of the highlights so far? A student-designed tartan selected through a campuswide contest. The design will appear on a range of University merchandise available in the UTA Bookstore later this year along with our other 130th-themed gear.

I’m also marking an anniversary of my own: Today marks my third year as president of this remarkable University. I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished together. From early wins like the launching of a new strategic plan to the opening of the School of Social Work and Smart Hospital Building to all the recent excitement detailed above, each milestone reflects a shared belief in what UTA can achieve when we work together.

To our graduates: Congratulations! Your achievement represents more than just academic success—it’s a testament to your drive to build something meaningful. We’re proud of all you’ve accomplished and can’t wait to see how you’ll blaze forward into the world as Maverick alumni. I’m looking forward to seeing all of you at commencement and celebrating with you.

And to all Mavericks, thank you for being part of this community. Your energy, passion, and persistence are what make UTA such a special place. Let’s finish the semester strong and keep building a future we can all be proud of.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Cowley signature
