Wednesday, February 12 at 6 AM
The February Fluff Fest continues here at Stowe, as persistent snow squalls late yesterday afternoon and evening left at least 4 inches of sparkling powder across the hill for us to enjoy this morning. The wind was relatively light, so the snow fell straight down and stacked on up. Our seasonal snowfall total now sits at 226 inches, with 31 inches falling in the past week!
Currently, skies have cleared out, setting the stage for a sunny morning on the slopes. Today’s forecast does call for partly sunny skies, though clouds may be on the increase later this afternoon ahead of our next storm system.
Temperatures at 6am range from 4 degrees at the top of the FourRunner Quad to 8 degrees in the base area. Those temperatures will rise to near 10 degrees at the summit and to near 20 degrees in the base area by early this afternoon.

In 1954, the first “snow stake” was put in on Mount Mansfield and snow depths have been recorded nearly every day since then. The 12-foot-high, two-by-four is marked off with feet and stands at a spot off the Toll Road at 3,900 feet of elevation.
For many years, observers with WCAX would note the snow depth every day and report it to the NWS. In recent years, the NWS has taken over monitoring “The Stake” as it is known, via a live web cam. “If the web cam fails, it’s usually me or one of our community members goes up to get a visual and we report it in,” says Braaten.

Pairings for Valentine’s Menu
|
Start your dinner off with a glass of our Magic Key Cle de la Femme. This delicious “true” champagne is always a great way to start a celebration! 25/glass 90/bottle.
The features that Chef Seth and his team have prepared will pair beautifully with the premier grape from Burgundy, Pinot Noir. We have chosen two different approaches to this wine. The first one is a new world offering, the Kistler Russian River 2020 Pinot Noir. This wine features bright red fruit along with a balanced acidity and good earthiness and tannins on the finish 120/bottle.
|
Slightly bolder than our second offering, the Louis Jadot 2020 Gevery-Chambertin.A classic Burgundy, it offers a leaner fruit profile and softer tannins than the California offering, again with a long finish and balanced acidity. 177/bottle.
Either of these wines would be great accompaniments to our wonderful dinner offerings!
