Big Family Fun…and a Remarkable Rescue

Thank you to everyone who joined us for Big Family Weekend at The Club! From games and music to barbecues and evening fireworks, it was a joy to see so many member families - old and new - celebrating together.
And while we were making memories here at the Club, something equally as memorable was happening just up the mountain.

Club General Manager Michael Harger, who also serves as a member of Stowe Mountain Rescue, was called into action to assist with an evening mission high up on the Halfway House Trail.

The rescue involved an injured hiker, steep terrain, and a challenging carryout - just as darkness fell. Thanks to the skill and teamwork of the Stowe Mountain Rescue team (and their brand-new Swedish Med-Tech vacuum mattress!), the subject was safely evacuated. As they began the descent down the Toll Road, the crew was treated to a perfect view of the Spruce Peak fireworks – a well-timed moment of beauty in the middle of a long night.

THE WALLFLOWERS - SUNDAY, JULY 13

Whether you are attending the concert on the Village Green or looking to enjoy from the balcony of The Alpine Clubhouse, these concert dinners are a great way to entertain your family and friends and show off the perks of being at member of The Club at Spruce Peak. View the menu HERE.

Rock ‘n’ roll is often hard to define, or even to find, in these fractured musical times. But to paraphrase an old saying, you know it when you hear it.
And you always hear it with the Wallflowers. For the past 30 years, the Jakob Dylan-led act has stood as one of rock’s most dynamic and purposeful bands – a unit dedicated to and continually honing a sound that meshes timeless songwriting and storytelling with a hard-hitting and decidedly modern musical attack.

GOLF TIP OF THE WEEK

WITH SCC HEAD PRO BILLY ROSS

How Hot Weather Affects Your Golf Game

We have seen a variety of weather thus far this summer. Including several hot weather days. Here are a few tips to battle the hot weather and how can affect your round.

1. Ball Flight and Distance

In hotter temperatures, the air becomes less dense, meaning there is less resistance as the ball travels through it. As a result, you will likely see slightly longer drives and more carry on your irons. However, this can also make club selection more difficult, especially if you are used to playing in cooler conditions.

2. Grip and Equipment Performance

Keeping a towel in your cart on your golf bag to help keep your hands and grips dry. As your glove and hands start to sweat - it will have an impact on your ability to control the club. Make sure you have an extra towel around to keep your hands and grips dry.

3. Physical and Mental Fatigue

Heat exhaustion and dehydration can set in quickly on the course, particularly during long rounds. Fatigue not only affects your swing mechanics and coordination but also your mental focus and decision-making. It can also be dangerous. Make sure you bring a water bottle and take advantage of our refill stations. Paring water with electrolyte additives can really help as well. Three bottles of water per nine-holes is a good benchmark.

4. Course Conditions

Hot weather often leads to drier, faster fairways and greens. You might get more roll off the tee but also face firmer landing areas and more unpredictable bounces. Greens can become slick and fast, especially in the afternoon. As the rough dries out, it becomes less restrictive to your golf club. This will often lead to a "flyer" lie. Meaning the ball will come out fast and without spin, creating longer distance shots when you least expect it.

Tips for Playing in the Heat:

· Drink plenty of water before, during, and after your round.

· Use a cool towel around the back of your neck to help cool your body temperature down

· Wear light-colored, breathable clothing along with a hat for shade on your face

· Be aware of how the heat might affect your club selection and swing as you start to tire.

With a little preparation and awareness, you can still enjoy a strong round even when the temperature climbs.

JUNIOR SERIES AT STOWE COUNTRY CLUB

Starting Wednesday 7/9 we invite all of our members under the age of 18 who are already playing the golf course unsupervised for a day of light competition at SCC. The Professional Staff will be assisting in creating fun formats and pairings for our younger members to play on a regular basis in an organized environment. Players can call the golf shop to have their name put on the list by Wednesday at 9am and tee times will be in the 12:00-1:00 range. All players are encouraged to have an active USGA handicap that the Professional Staff can assist with. There will be a season long points list that will lead to an end of season luncheon with prizes and awards. Please contact Billy Ross with any questions or concerns.
