Wrapping Up the Semester: Grading Tips & Self-Care Reminders |
As we approach the end of the semester, we, as Hubsters, wanted to take a moment to acknowledge your incredible work and dedication. The end-of-term period is often one of the most intense periods with final projects, assessment, and grading all converging at once. During this time, it is as important to take care of yourself as it is to support your students.
Grading Efficiently & Transparently
If you’re finalizing examinations or final projects, here are a few practices to help streamline the grading process while maintaining clarity and transparency
-
Use Rubrics to reduce ambiguity: Clear rubrics, as a type of evaluation tool, not only help students understand the assessment expectations better but also save your time. They also provide students with meaningful feedback, highlighting strengths and areas for improvement in an objective and measurable way.
-
Leverage SpeedGrader or Gradebook tools: These built-in tools of Canvas LMS can help you view, annotate, and provide feedback to students efficiently.
-
Communicate grading timelines to students: Leave a quick message in Canvas or email to set expectations of grading timelines could be very helpful, so that helping students reduce their anxiety.
Self-Care is Essential
We know you’re balancing many responsibilities within the period, please remember that self-care is very essential! Please:
-
Take short, intentional breaks: A few minutes break between grading sessions can help restore energy and focus.
- Practice mindfulness: Simple techniques like deep breathing or meditation can make a big difference, even just for 5 minutes.

GenAI and Digital Media: Challenges, Approaches, and Solutions for the Classroom and Beyond — Event Recording Now Available |
As part of the GenAI 7-Week Faculty Development Program, this panel explored how audiovisual generative AI tools, such as Stable Diffusion, Midjourney, and NotebookLM, are beginning to reshape media-oriented courses. While much attention has been given to text-based AI like ChatGPT, this conversation highlighted the distinct challenges and opportunities presented by GenAI tools in fields like journalism, photography, graphic design, and film.
Panelists Adam Sekuler, Sarah Nesbitt, and Jen Proctor shared insights on how these tools are influencing notions of authorship, academic integrity, and creative practice in both the classroom and professional media industries. They also discussed ways to integrate these technologies ethically and meaningfully into teaching.
