Staff Spotlight: Curtis Scheib
Curt Scheib is dean of the College of Arts, Humanities, Media, and Public Affairs. Having graduated from IUP with a bachelor’s in 1977 and a master’s in ’78, he returned in 2019 to become dean of the College of Fine Arts. He then became dean of the College of Arts and Humanities and now of the recently restructured college. Curt’s academic degrees are all in music, with a primary focus in voice performance. Before returning to his alma mater, he spent more than 30 years at Seton Hill University, where he held various administrative roles and was heavily involved in building the downtown arts campus. As a singer, Curt performed with regional opera companies and orchestras across the United States and toured throughout the Southwest and New England. In the 1990s, upon returning to the area and reconnecting with the Music Department, he often was a guest soloist at IUP choral and concert events and can be heard on several IUP recordings with the Keystone Winds and the Wind Ensemble. He now serves as a visiting evaluator for the National Association of Schools of Music and was a member of its Commission on Accreditation. In his role as a visiting evaluator, Curt leads accreditation reviews for music programs at institutions across the country. He completed the Senior Leadership Academy of the Council of Independent Colleges and spent a summer studying in Italy. At IUP, he has been part of the leadership team, heading three colleges and helping craft the future of IUP. Curt has been particularly proud of the ways IUP has been welcoming to all students, broadening the curriculum, and bringing in a variety of viewpoints and voices. He also has been pleased to be part of several initiatives to support students, including development of the Crimson Core. Having a long view of IUP that goes back to his time as a student while knowing there is always more work to be done, he is excited to see just how far we have come. We thank you, Curt!
