Luke’s Gospel begins the story of Jesus with this opening line: “In the time of Herod…” This detail may seem minor to modern readers; however, it reveals layers of information about the fearful world Jesus entered, one filled with rampant oppression, economic disparity, uncertainty, and instability. A world not so unlike our own. And yet, throughout the stories of Christ’s birth, we hear the whispers of angels delivering a surprising message: “Do not fear.” When Mary, Joseph, the shepherds, and the magi are each called into God’s redemptive story, they do not deny their fears—they move through them. They ask questions, hold fast to courage, trust in good news, and say, “Here I am, Lord.” When we find ourselves in fearful times, can we acknowledge our fears while also insisting on hope?
As you journey through this season, may your hope become gritty and resilient. May you remember: hope that trembles is still hope. This season, let us insist on hope and trust that good news is greater than fear.

United Methodist Student Day Offering – Investing in the Next Generation of Leaders
This Sunday, Wellspring has the opportunity to join churches across our denomination in supporting the next generation of Christian leaders. This special offering directly funds scholarships and loans for United Methodist students pursuing higher education—including those preparing for ministry in colleges, universities, and seminaries around the world.
For many young adults, the call to follow Christ leads them into vocation, service, and leadership that shape the Church and the world. Your generosity helps remove financial barriers so that students can respond fully to God’s call on their lives. Whether they are preparing to become pastors, social workers, teachers, counselors, chaplains, or community leaders, your gift empowers their journey.
Wellspring is a congregation deeply committed to nurturing and equipping disciples of all ages. By giving to the United Methodist Student Day Offering, you extend that commitment beyond our walls and invest in a future filled with faithful, compassionate leaders.
We invite you to give generously and prayerfully as we celebrate United Methodist Student Day. Together, let’s continue supporting students who are saying “yes” to God’s call.

| Sarah Stowell, Director of Finance
I grew up in Austin, and for the past six years I’ve been living in Georgetown, just a short drive from where I was raised. I’ve been married for 13 years, and my spouse and I have three wonderful kids, ages 21, 18 and 7, who keep my life busy, fun, and incredibly meaningful.
Outside of work, I love writing, playing chess, dancing, and finding ways to serve my community. Right now, I’m working on a financial literacy program for youth because I believe financial education should start early and be accessible to everyone.
Over the years, I’ve owned five successful businesses—and have worked through a much longer list of businesses that have failed. Those failures taught me more than the successes ever could, shaping my resilience and giving me a clearer sense of purpose.
I really value what Wellspring brings to our community, and I’m genuinely grateful for the warm welcome I’ve received. I’m looking forward to getting to know everyone better and finding ways we can make a positive impact together.
-Sarah

We live in a world where we often think of power the way the Roman soldiers (or even the first soldier) thought of power, but Jesus comes not to reign with a sword but by submitting and being slain and humiliated by those powers. And in doing so, he begins to dismantle those systems.
