Dr. Cynthia Teniente-Matson

Dear Faculty and Staff,

I am writing to request your nominations for the following service roles, all of which will play critical roles in our campus community.

Search Committee for the Vice President for Information and Chief Information Officer

I am pleased to announce that we are launching the search for the SJSU’s Vice President for Information Technology and Chief Information Officer (VP for IT/CIO).

In accordance with university policy, S16-8, I am seeking nominations for the search committee, which will be composed of faculty, students, administrators, staff, with the potential for alumni and community representatives as well. Faculty will comprise a majority of the committee.

I invite you to nominate yourself or others for this search committee. Nominations must include a brief written statement reflecting the nominee’s interest and qualifications for serving and all nominating petitions must be submitted by October 15, 2026. Any questions about this search should be directed to Emily Ngo, Executive Assistant to the Chief of Staff, at emily.ngo@sjsu.edu.

The Vice President and Chief Information Officer, Information Technology is the chief strategist and visionary of information technology planning, implementation, operation, and improvement. Reporting directly to the president and serving as a key member of the president’s cabinet, the VP for IT/CIO regularly collaborates with students, staff, faculty, deans, administrative officers, and community members to create strategic, innovative, and leading IT capabilities that support the mission and vision of the University.

I previously extended Chris Wessells’ appointment as Interim Vice President for Information Technology and Chief Information Officer through June 30, 2027.

Advisory Committee for Instructionally Related Activities (IRA)

I invite nominations, including self-nominations, for faculty members to serve on the Instructional Related Activities (IRA) Advisory Committee, which helps to shape how funds from the IRA fee support academic innovation and the student experience.

The 9-member advisory committee composed of nine (9) total members, co-chaired by the Provost and the Associated Students, Inc. (ASI) President or their designees. Students make up the majority (5) of voting members on the 9-member committee. It is co-chaired by the provost and the Associated Students president or their designees and also includes the vice president for student affairs’ designee and two faculty members.

To preserve continuity in the years ahead, I will appoint one faculty member to a three-year term and one to a two-year term, with eligibility for reappointment.

Nominations must include a brief written statement reflecting the nominee’s interest and qualifications for serving, and all nominating petitions must be submitted by October 12, 2026. Any questions about this appointment should be directed to John Kepley, Deputy Chief of Staff, at john.kepley@sjsu.edu.

Athletics Board

Per policy S19-2, I invite nominations for two Faculty Members-at-Large seats on the Athletics Board, which works in cooperation with SJSU’s Intercollegiate Athletics division, the Faculty Athletics Representative, the Academic Senate, and the University administration to ensure outstanding athletic programs and to maintain the quality of education and environment for each individual within the Athletics program.

To apply for these seats, faculty are requested to submit a brief statement of their qualifications and interest in serving via this online form. All nominations for this role will be reviewed by the Senate Executive Committee and approved by the Senate. Appointments will be made by the president. The service shall be for a three-year term, with eligibility for reappointment.

Other Senate Committees & Special Agencies

There are many additional seats open on the university-level committees operated by SJSU's Academic Senate, which eligible faculty and staff are urged to apply for.

Please review all current Senate committee vacancies for faculty and staff, and submit your application form via the Senate Committee Vacancy webpage.

If you have questions, reach out to Senate Associate Vice Chair (AVC) Caroline Chen at caroline.chen@sjsu.edu and cc the Senate Office at senate@sjsu.edu.

Thank you for your engagement and consideration of these service opportunities.

Sincerely,

Cynthia Teniente-Matson
