Find the Light in Life Sucks.

What if a story about frustration, longing, and uncertainty could also leave you feeling hopeful, connected, and even a little lighter?

Inspired by Anton Chekhov’s Uncle Vanya, this witty and deeply human play brings timeless questions into the present moment. It is about the ache of wanting more from life, the humor we find in our struggles, and the unexpected beauty that can emerge when we choose connection over isolation.

But do not let the title fool you.

Life Sucks. is filled with warmth, humor, and heart. It is a story about people searching for meaning, reaching for each other, and discovering that even in disappointment, there is still joy to be found. Through sharp dialogue and moments of surprising tenderness, the play invites us to laugh, reflect, and recognize ourselves in its characters.

“Posner’s meta-theatrical adaptation blows the word contemporary out of the water, taking the plot of Vanya, knocking down the 4th wall, and including the audience in this exploration of love, loss and longing,” says Director John Forsythe. “This ensemble of master actors dives headlong into the struggles and delights we each encounter on a daily basis in 2026: friendship, love, betrayal, and being surprised by joy as the world seems to be collapsing around us.”

Whether you are a longtime theatre lover or simply looking for an evening that will move you and lift your spirit, this is a production that speaks to where we are right now and where we hope to be.

Join us for Life Sucks., running May 21 through June 7 at the Doris Harper-White Playhouse.

The Journey Continues: Route 66 to the Grand Canyon

The celebration is in full swing! Theatrikos is proud to continue the world premiere run of Route 66 to the Grand Canyon, our original commissioned comedy honoring the 100th anniversary of the Mother Road. Since opening in February, this interactive production has been delighting audiences across Northern Arizona, and the adventure continues all the way through November.

Mark your calendars for a major highlight: June 6. As the entire town of Flagstaff gathers for the Downtown Route 66 Celebration, Theatrikos will be right in the heart of the action with special performances hosted at Firecreek Coffee Company.

Whether you catch us at the Doris Harper-White Playhouse, the Museum of Northern Arizona, or our upcoming shows in Ash Fork, don’t miss your chance to join this living tribute. As Director John Propster says, “Who says a 100-year-old Mother Road doesn’t have a few tricks up her sleeve?”
