International Area Update

Happy Independence Day
It is time to celebrate the birth of our country’s existence. Time to celebrate all those who have contributed in every way to this country, recognize that we have not always lived up to our principals and potential, and plan to do better in the future.

INTO Muskogee
Our rally in Muskogee, OK was a success. Thank you to everyone who helped plan it, those who attended and those who volunteered during the event.

The RoadTrek and Monaco International pre-rallies were well attended. Many attendees took advantage of Ramblin’ Pushers RV weighing opportunity.

We hope that you will consider attending other INTO and other Area events in the future.

FMCA Executive Board
The Executive Board met on Saturday, June 1, 2024. The major purpose was to review the proposed budget from the Finance Committee.

Barbara Smith, the Treasurer, noted that in her Treasurer’s report we have been experiencing operating losses and a loss in our net assets. She suggested two items for the Board to consider:

Eliminate FMCAssist: The Board, later in the meeting, approved the recommended budget from the Finance Committee that included approval of FMCAssit for consideration by the Governing Board.
Eliminate an international convention and use a smaller event to raise revenues. The Convention Committee has considered the small rally alternative prepared by staff and found that the smaller events would most likely lose money. The idea has merit but needs to be fully flushed out for it to become a viable option that could potentially increase our revenue.

The CEO reported that FMCA lost a total of $2.4 million in fiscal 2022 and 2023.

The Identity Committee recommended two names for DBA for FMCA. The EB recommended “Family RV Association 0f FMCA.” This will be considered at the Governing Board meeting.

The EB recommended that the charge for FMCA to process registrations for area rallies be increased to $10 per registration.

The above is a very brief summary of this meeting. The overall theme of the meeting and the efforts of the EB revolve around the financial difficulty of FMCA. Our membership is declining but not our expenses. We have had to use money from the reserves to pay our bills for several years. If these issues are not addressed quickly, we will be at a point of no return. We have been working on both fronts by initiating new membership programs (Pathfinder, Share the Love, etc.) and by reducing staff levels. We are also recommending eliminating FMCAssist which is a major expense. Additional actions will be necessary to reverse our loses.

INTO Elections
The annual INTO election was held recently. The following individuals were elected for two year terms:

Dick Lowman Senior Vice President
Shirley Johnson Secretary
Rodger Donnelly Vice President
Harry Hentschel Vice President

I also want to thank you for your electing me to a two year term as President of the International Area.

Standing Rules
The ByLaws Committee consisting of Connie Pool (Chair), Claire Porter and Pat Weithofer have recommended changes to the Standing Rules. The proposals were reviewed by the Executive Board which recommends the following areas for modification.

Additions to the duties of the Secretary.

Additions to the duties of the Treasurer.

Changing the references to the International Traveler newsletter to the International website.

The specific language of the changes is on the website and will be voted on by the Board of Directors at the annual meeting at the Summer International Convention in Redmond, Oregon. They are available on the website under the Document menu.
