CELEBRATING FACULTY COACHING
Last month marked the conclusion of the Office of Faculty Academic Affairs' inaugural Assistant Professor Coaching Program, led by Gretchen Fuller. Participants unanimously reported that the program improved their sense of professional fulfillment, and specifically highlighted insights collected through a combination of individualized one-to-one coaching, structured reflection activities, cohort-based learning and validated self-assessment tools. This approach helped participants clarify their personal values, sharpen professional priorities and gain confidence in their academic professional journeys, as reflected in participant feedback below.
“Academia is a world of balancing what we need to do, what we want to do and what we are told to do. This program helped me focus on the restorative aspects of my job that can combine what I want to do with what I need to do.”
“This program has significantly increased my professional fulfillment. It has reframed and highlighted my love for this work and helped me remember my ‘why.’”
“It clarified my sense of direction and reinforced alignment between my values, strengths, and work, which has increased confidence in my long-term trajectory.”
The program has generated considerable excitement as well as momentum toward the Office of Faculty Affairs' future expansion of faculty coaching opportunities, in collaboration with Dell Med faculty leaders leading this work across departments.
