VentureBridge Demo Day 2024 Has Kicked Off
Next up: Pittsburgh!
The CMU VentureBridge (VB) program, an initiative of the Swartz Center for Entrepreneurship has kicked off its 3-City VentureBridge ’24 Demo Day, which started in San Francisco this week. The Pittsburgh event will take place next week on Wednesday, September 25.
Come watch presentations from the VentureBridge ’24 cohort of startups and select VentureBridge alumni startups, followed by a networking reception. Learn more about the VB portfolio here.

The CMU Swartz Center Hosts Family Business Leadership Series Event with Stuart Weitzman, Founder of Stuart Weitzman Shoes
The CMU Swartz Center, along with the CMU School of Design, co-hosted a special Family Business Leadership Series talk on Monday, September 16, 2024 with Stuart Weitzman, founder of Stuart Weitzman shoes. Mr. Weitzman spoke passionately as he shared his entrepreneurial journey to a packed house, reflecting on his passion for design, which has been a lifelong pursuit that has led to the internationally renowned company that bears his name. His unique approach to entrepreneurship and his uncompromised commitment to prioritizing function as an integral element of fashion has led to his shoes dominated the red carpet for many years.
Meredith Meyer Grelli, Assistant Dean of Entrepreneurship Initiatives, Director of Project Olympus, Swartz Center EIR and Faculty at the Tepper School of Business, leads the Family Business initiative and kicked off the talk. James R. Swartz Entrepreneurial Fellow Julie Negussie introduced Mr. Weitzman.

Carnegie Mellon's Tepper School of Business Ranked #3 For Entrepreneurship By Bloomberg
Bloomberg's latest Business School Rankings for 2024-25 ranks Carnegie Mellon's Tepper School of Business #3 for Entrepreneurship. CMU Swartz Center Executive Director Dave Mawhinney shared in a recent LinkedIn post, "The Swartz Center for Entrepreneurship is proud to partner with the Carnegie Mellon University Tepper School of Business on entrepreneurship initiatives, startup formation, education and research".

Galen Health Featured in Pittsburgh Post Gazette: What's Next in AI: Curing Cancer, or at Least Trying
In Pittsburgh, the promise of diagnosing just one cancer—Pancreatic—with AI was enough to convince CMU School of Computer Science Master of Science student and James R. Swartz Entrepreneurial Fellow Logan Nye, MD, to abandon his plans of becoming a surgeon. He’s now using coding and math to build Galen Health, in partnership with the city’s top universities and medical centers.

The Swartz Center has opened applications for the 2024-26 James R. Swartz Entrepreneurial Fellows program. Applications will be open through Sunday, October 13, 2024 at 11:59 pm ET.
This highly selective, two-year program for CMU graduate students, develops the students entrepreneurial potential and leadership skills through hands-on experiences, networking, mentoring and courses in entrepreneurship. The program's core is a mentored summer internship with a top-tier VC-backed startup within the high-tech, high-growth environment of California's Silicon Valley and San Francisco.
