Meet the Cast of Life Sucks. Opening May 21
|
Get ready for a hilarious, heartbreaking, and "sort of" Chekhovian experience as Theatrikos presents Life Sucks., opening May 21. Directed by John Forsythe, this bold adaptation of Uncle Vanya tackles life’s biggest questions with modern wit and a healthy dose of fourth-wall-breaking honesty.
We are thrilled to announce an incredible ensemble of local talent bringing this "beautiful mess" to life:
Joel Austin
Andrew Dzeguze
América Fregozo
Leslie S. Jones
Nick Rabe
Vicki Thompson
Audrey Young
Forsythe describes the group as a "masterful" ensemble ready to dive into the raw, rowdy energy of Aaron Posner’s script. Whether you’re grappling with an existential crisis or just looking for a relatable laugh, this show is a provocative reminder of why live theatre matters.
Performances run through June 7, including our popular Saturday matinees. Don’t miss this transformative, irreverent celebration of the human spirit!

From The Executive Director
|
“Life Sucks. is exactly the kind of theatre we need right now. In a time when so many people are navigating uncertainty, disconnection, and big existential questions, Aaron Posner’s play meets audiences where they are, with humor, honesty, and a deep sense of shared humanity. It takes a classic story and reframes it in a way that feels immediate, accessible, and surprisingly hopeful.”
~ Jeremy Blunt
|
“Posner’s meta-theatrical adaptation blows the word contemporary out of the water, taking the plot of Vanya, knocking down the 4th wall, and including the audience in this exploration of love, loss and longing. This ensemble of master actors dives headlong into the struggles and delights we each encounter on a daily basis in 2026: friendship, love, betrayal, and being surprised by joy as the world seems to be collapsing around us.”
~ John Forsythe

|
Award-Winning Playwright and Educator Morgan Allen Joins Our Team |
We are thrilled to welcome a familiar face back to our community in an exciting new role. Morgan Allen, a longtime member of TheatriKids since 2013, is joining Theatrikos as our newest Teaching Artist just in time for a summer full of creativity.
A 2025 graduate of Loyola Marymount University, Morgan brings a strong foundation in Theatre Arts along with specialized training in education for diverse learning environments. Her experience includes teaching theatre in Los Angeles magnet programs, where she developed engaging, inclusive classrooms that empower young people to find their voice.
Morgan is also a nationally recognized playwright, earning honors from the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival for her original work. She brings that same passion for storytelling into the classroom, creating spaces where students feel supported, challenged, and inspired.
"I strive to create safe, holistic learning environments where youth can grow as both artists and individuals," Morgan shares.
This summer, Morgan will be part of our teaching team helping lead TheatriKids camps, where students will build confidence, creativity, and collaboration skills through hands-on theatre experiences. Whether your child is stepping on stage for the first time or continuing their theatrical journey, they’ll be guided by artists like Morgan who are deeply committed to their growth.
When she isn’t working with students, you might find Morgan enjoying good food with friends or indulging in a few too many iPad games.
Please join us in giving Morgan a warm Theatrikos welcome - and consider joining her this summer for an unforgettable camp experience.
