The Unity Leadership Council here at CAC announce a Day of Service for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Dr. Rogers introduced the idea of a day of service to the council, and they got to help pick what kind of project they wanted to do. The council made the decision to do a blanket drive so that it could help people with an immediate need, especially during these colder months.
“It also allowed students to make a direct impact on people in our local community who are experiencing homelessness,” she said.
Dr. Rogers originally decided to bring this idea to the Unity Council because she wanted a way for students and faculty to honor Dr. King’s legacy not just through words but also actions.
“We wanted students to actively serve others in a meaningful way that reflected his belief that everyone can serve.” Dr. Rogers said.
Dr. Rogers' hope is that the day of service become something that can help the CAC community to remember this day and for this to become something that happens every year.
"The positive response from students and the community showed that this is something worth continuing and growing each year," she said.
MLK Jr. Day is not just another day to be our of school. It's a day that we can go out into the community and help people in need.
