We know you have lots to keep track of as a Hopkins student, and The Word from the Bird is here to help! Each edition compiles important deadlines, announcements, and other need-to-know information, along with helpful reminders and updates about resources, services, programs, and more.

News you need to know 

Complete the Enrolled Student Survey
Tell us what you think about your Hopkins experience in the Enrolled Student Survey—we read all of your comments! Your feedback can help us make changes that will improve the student experience. Check your email for your link to this very important survey; every fifth responder will receive a $5 e-gift card! 

Seniors: Final Commencement reminders
Did you register to participate in the Commencement ceremony? If not, email commencement@jhu.edu. Still need to purchase your regalia? Email JHU Barnes & Noble. Keep checking your inbox and the Commencement website for information and guidance. Good luck with your finals! 

Prepare for residential Move-Out
Residential students, it's time to start planning your move out of university housing. Remember that residence halls will close at 12 p.m. on May 15 and J-Card entry will be deactivated. You should have already received Move-Out information from the Housing Operations team, who will continue to share information through the end of the semester. You can also visit the Move-Out webpage for full details. 

Spring Fair starts tomorrow

Spring Fair is back! From April 24–26, Homewood campus will come to life with lawn games, inflatables, food vendors, a 21+ lounge, an arts marketplace, a petting zoo, and live performances from The Beaches and Toosi. Browse the complete schedule and join us in celebrating this springtime tradition!

Hopkins Student Center Highlights

The Hopkins Student Center will be opening later this summer, and you can leave your mark on this exciting new space!

Stop by the HSC table at Spring Fair's Arts Marketplace on Friday from 12 to 5 p.m. to design a wooden chip that will be incorporated into an art installation in the HSC.

Visit the HSC website to learn more about the building, and look for more exciting details to be shared leading up to its opening.

Learning Resources & Support

Explore options for study support during finals

Study with both community and academic support at CSS Saturdays: Study with a Tutor. Whether you're tackling chemistry, physics, calculus, or need general study help, Learning Den tutors and study consultants are there for you. Come by the Center or Student Success on April 26 and May 3 between 12 to 4 p.m. and enjoy some snacks and pizza while you work. 

Need additional support as you prepare for your exams? The Office of Academic Support offers programs to improve study skills, provide subject-specific tutoring, and encourage peer to peer collaborative learning. Visit their website to see options for drop-in tutoring with The Learning Den, or register for a PILOT session.

Upcoming study breaks

  • Come to The Beach on April 27 from 8 to 9 p.m. to screech with the HOP. Enjoy free food, finals care packages, and kazoos to blow out your stress!
  • Wear your blue or Hopkins gear for a special Blue Jay Tuesday study break on May 6. We'll be giving away a variety of snacks to help fuel your study sessions on the Breezeway from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
 

On & Around Campus

A Hopkins Night at the Museum 
The Office of the Provost Arts Initiative is sponsoring a free evening event at the Baltimore Museum of Art on April 30 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. The museum will be open after hours to all students and other members of the Hopkins community; guests will have a chance to wander the galleries and enjoy live music and refreshments. Learn more and RSVP to attend.  

Upgrade your tech while supporting a great cause
Check out the annual Tech Yard Sale on May 1 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Krieger Hall 170! This year’s sale will feature a variety of gently used equipment for purchase at deep discounts, including laptops, iMacs, iPads, printers, and more. All proceeds will be donated to United Way! 

Enroll in a meal plan for next academic year
Birds of a feather, dine together! Enroll in a 2025-26 meal plan by June 30 for a chance to win an additional $150 in Dining Dollars and the opportunity to keep any remaining Spring 2025 Dining Dollars. Visit the Hopkins Dining website for more details. 

 

Health & Well-Being

Empower Hour at the Rec
Women and nonbinary students are invited to a special weight training session at the Rec on April 30 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Come work out in community and gain skills, strength, and confidence with the support of personal trainers. All levels are welcome—beginners to current lifters! RSVP in Hopkins Groups. 

Strategies for a happy and healthy summer
Summer is almost here, and as the semester winds down, we hope you plan some time to rest, relax, and recharge. In a Well-Being Blog post, Student Disability Services provides tips on how to de-stress this summer. Whether taking summer classes, working an internship or a job, vacationing, or job hunting, these five strategies will provide you the tools to recharge and take charge of your mental and physical health.

Enjoy a spirited brunch at Hopkins Café
Celebrate the end of the semester and all things Hopkins at our annual Spirit Brunch! Visit Hopkins Cafe on May 3 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to enjoy an elevated brunch menu, music and Hopkins-themed décor before finals begin. RSVP in Hopkins Groups. 

First-year students: Celebrate the end of your first academic year
First-year students, congratulations on completing your first year at Hopkins—you did it! Pick up a major sticker, giveaways, coffee and donuts at First-Year Finale Celebration tomorrow, April 24, from 1 to 3 p.m. on the Wyman Quad. Sponsored by the Office of Student Transitions and Family Engagement.  

Honoring FLI students and their achievements
FLI students and their supporters are invited to join the FLI Network for their 2025 End of the Year Celebration & Halfway There Ceremony on April 29 at 6 p.m. in the Glass Pavilion! This special event is all about honoring the dedication, achievements, and contributions of our incredible FLI students, colleagues, and partners. Learn more and RSVP in Hopkins Groups.

  • Student Outreach & Support is available for appointments by calling 410-516-7857 or by scheduling online. Visit their website to learn more about their services, as well as the Hopkins Food Pantry and other needs resources. 
  • Need mental health support? Visit Mental Health Services to find out how to schedule a therapy appointment or access virtual tools like TimelyCare, SilverCloud, and the Calm app.  
  • Religious and Spiritual Life supports the JHU community’s spiritual needs and promotes religious tolerance and social awareness. Contact them by phone at 410-516-1880 or by email at chaplain@jhu.edu for more information.
