Teaching Tips:
Self-Care is Good Pedagogy |
|
|
I often recommend Sarah Rose Cavanagh's "They Need Us To be Well" article from the Chronicle to instructors who are dealing with overwhelm and burnout. In it, Cavanagh advocates for rest and joy for professors under a premise of it being good for students due to the social contagion that happens in the classroom.
Cavanagh writes: "Their [students] emotional experiences during learning mirror our emotional experiences during teaching."
Self care can feel counterintuitive to productivity or efficiency but education is a human endeavor and humans need to take care of themselves. So, this valentines' edition of the Hub Cap's teaching tips is all about self care for teachers.
