Mid-Semester Events Update |
We hope you can join us for one or all of the upcoming Archives & Special Collections and Digital Initiatives related events. We are thrilled to see our collections in use around the Athens community as well as on campus.
Please note there is still time for interested students to apply for the spring 2026 Archives & Special Collections internship! Applications are due by the end of this Friday, November 7th. All instructions and information, as well as the application, are available online. Please share widely!

Event: TOMORROW, Wednesday, November 5, 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM, Library, Ohio University Zanesville. Interested in an immersive and interactive experience with rare and historic children's picture books? A selection will be available for hands-on exploration as one of many events occurring during Ohio University Zanesville's celebration of Picture Book Week.

Hybrid Event: Wednesday, November 12, 1:00 - 2:00 PM, 319 Alden Library and online. In conjunction with the exhibit, "Enslavement & Abolition in Antebellum Texts & Contemporary Artists' Books," please join us in-person or online for a roundtable conversation on the history, literature, and current artistic interpretations of the included texts. The roundtable features Professor Emerita of History Katherine Jellison, Professor of English and Literature Paul C. Jones, and artist, archivist, and scholar Sauda Mitchell.

Event: Sunday, November 16, 2:00 PM, Stuart's Opera House, Nelsonville. Join Invisible Ground's Brian Koscho to learn about the Invisible Ground project, see a demo and tour of the current Immersive Sites, and share your stories and history of Nelsonville. All are welcome! Snacks and drinks will be served!
Stories of particular interest are: Public Square, Brick Kilns and Bricks, Estel Crabtree, and Black History in Nelsonville. For questions or more information email brian@findinvisibleground.com.

Event: Wednesday, November 19, 2:00 - 4:00 PM, Athens County Public Library, Nelsonville, Large Meeting Room. Interested in old maps, local history, the built and natural environment? Join us for an exploration of the W.E. Peters collection. William E. Peters (1857-1952) compiled hundreds of photographs of unique and at-risk features to create one of the most comprehensive records of Athens County history. This event will introduce the life and legacy of W. E. Peters and offer attendees a chance to engage hands-on with the collection, as well as virtually through an interactive map.

Exhibit: 5th floor Alden Library. The history of the buildings, patients, and staff of the Athens Mental Health Center is presented through archival materials and infographic posters created by students in the spring 2025 class VICO 4112/5112 Illustration Capstone: Advanced Informational Graphics.

Exhibit: 3rd floor Alden Library. Alphabets @ Alden is a poster series of personal alphabets, inspired in part by historic and artistic alphabet books in the rare book collection, created by ART 2520 typography students and instructed by Tabitha Asiedu-Gyamfi and Sarah McDowell, over the course of 9 weeks.
