Artist Talk and Reception, March 20, 5:30 p.m. Free and open to the public.
Rising Waters, is by Allison B. Allen artist-in-residence, Nathalie Miebach. Miebach's exhibit explores the intersection of art and science by translating scientific data related to meteorology, ecology and oceanography into woven sculptures and musical scores/performances. Her main method of data translation is that of basket weaving, which functions as a simple, tactile grid through which to interpret data into 3D space. Central to this work is her desire to explore the role visual and musical aesthetics play in the translation and understanding of complex scientific systems, such as weather.
Miebach is the recipient of numerous awards and residencies, including a Pollock-Krasner Award, Virginia A. Groot Foundation Award, TED Global Fellowship, two Massachusetts Cultural Council Fellowships and the Fine Arts Work Center. She did her undergraduate studies in Chinese and political pcience at Oberlin College. She received an MFA in sculpture and an M.S. in art education from Massachusetts College of Art. Her work has shown nationally and internationally, and has been reviewed by publications spanning fine arts, design and technology. She lives in Boston.

Looking for a Perfect Score

Did you know we have alumni educators represented in 98 of the 99 counties of Iowa? Although that's a great statistic, we'd like to blanket the entire state. If you are teaching in Osceola County, or know of a Central College alum who is, please email alumni@central.edu. We're looking for a perfect score.

Sustainability

At Central, we find ways to meet our needs without compromising future generations' ability to meet theirs. To learn more about sustainability efforts at Central, read the current issue of the Sustainability Newsletter

Reunion

Gabriel, Joy and Alan
It took Alan Van Zee '79 just a bit of coaxing over the past couple years to convince Gabriel Espinosa '79 to bring his band to Hawaii. Perhaps it was the extra cold Iowa January that finally sealed the deal. In February Gabriel, along with his band and guest soloist Tierney Sutton, arrived in Kauai, Hawaii, to headline at one of the concerts during the 12th annual All Angels Jazz Festival. In the audience was Joy Tanimoto Kouchi '82, who came to support  her school mate. According to Alan, the audience loved Gabriel and his music. They are pictured (left to right): Associate Professor of Music Gabriel Espinosa '79Joy Tanimoto Kouchi '82 and Alan Van Zee '79
If you are you planning a Central reunion, or find yourself at the same place and time with another Central alum, be sure to capture the moment and we'll be happy to share it.

Meet Courtney Simon '20
High School: Aplington-Parkersburg
Hometown: Parkersburg, Iowa
Major: Exercise Science
What residence hall do you live in on campus? During my freshmen year, I lived in Scholte Hall and now, I'm living in Gaass Hall.
What does the Journey Scholarship mean to you? I have absolutely loved my time here at Central, but that wouldn't be possible without your generous support. Thank you! I am so thankful to be here and for the education I am receiving. I do not take it for granted. The support behind this school and its students is second to none. I am proud to be attending Central College. Thank you for helping make that a reality for me!
Fun fact about yourself: I have a twin sister, who is also my roommate!
