Registration is now open for the 2024 McGinnis Venture Competition, a platform exclusively for Carnegie Mellon University's community of student entrepreneurs. This competition brings together Carnegie Mellon's best and brightest student entrepreneurs to compete for $60K in investments. All participants receive crucial interaction with alumni entrepreneurs and venture capitalists, an opportunity to raise capital and valuable feedback about ventures. Carnegie Mellon Student Shagun Maheshwari Joins Contrary Capital as a Venture Partner

Carnegie Mellon graduate Material Science Engineering and Computer Science student, Shagun Maheshwari, recently joined the 2024 cohort of Venture Partners with Contrary Capital. Also one of the newest 2023-25 James R. Swartz Entrepreneurial Fellows, Shagun is a machine learning developer working on accelerating new materials discovery with data driven methods for applications within climate change. As a Venture Partner, she will help Contrary meet the next generation of exceptional founders and companies coming out of universities across the US and Canada.
Shagun was chosen, along with 25 other Venture Partners, after a rigorous selection process that included nearly 1,300 applicants.

| Chrissy Xu Officially Launches b.Ready Gummies
Tepper School of Business alumna and Swartz Entrepreneurial Fellow Chrissy Xu has officially launched b.Ready gummies, her company which aids in optimal post-drinking support. The company was pre-launched on November 6, 2023 and b.Ready gummies are now available for online orders.

Announcing the Hack-A-Startup Winners!
This year's Hack-A-Startup event, which was jointly organized by the Carnegie Mellon Graduate Entrepreneurship Club (GEC), the Undergraduate Entrepreneurship Association (UEA) and the Scotty Ventures clubs, was an opportunity for Carnegie Mellon graduate students pitch their ideas to investors over the weekend of October 28 and 29, 2023. Held at the CMU Swartz Center, this years event focused on a special track to work on issues related to medical errors and preventive care. The event was sponsored by the Patient Safety Technology Challenge. The winners of the event are:
Patient Safety Challenge Winner SafeRx: Amanda Manget (Swartz Fellow), Charlie Sun, Matthew Pranata, Minh Tran, Archita Jain and Mahati Manda.
First Place ABHero: Ram Potham (Innovation Scholar), Eli Forcucci and Archan Das (Innovation Scholar)

Matt Kirmayer of Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP, is currently offering office hours for newly established startup and emerging companies. Matt specializes in representing technology startups and emerging growth companies, assisting with entity formation, fundraising and overall growth needs. Startup companies with a founder who is a CMU graduate, undergraduate or alumni is eligible to register for an appointment.
