Greetings site managers,
I hope your semester is off to a great start! In this month's newsletter, I've got some exciting updates about an upcoming A&S site manager event and - even though it feels like this semester is barely underway - I've also got some exciting updates about an important new tool to help our students plan their next semester. Fall Lunch & Learn - Save the Date! |
Thursday, November 6th, 11:45 AM | DUC 276 |
At some point, you've probably been warned that there is no such thing as a "free lunch." I think the biannual Lunch & Learn is probably the closest thing to it. Not only do our site managers get free lunch, but they also get...
|
- ...important website and social media updates from the A&S MarComm and A&S Web teams.
- ...opportunities to connect with site managers across A&S doing similar work.
- ...to learn about upcoming workshops on website topics most important to them.
|
But it'd be dishonest for me to say that we get nothing in return. When y'all attend these events, we get invaluable insights into the work y'all are doing. Hearing the projects you're currently tackling and the challenges you're currently facing helps us provide better support to you.
|
So, over the next couple of weeks, be on the lookout for an official RSVP email - and I hope to see you at the event!

New A&S Course Explorer Tool is Live |
You may already be in the know when it comes to the launch of this important tool - previous announcements were sent out by the A&S Web team and by Vice Dean Erin McGlothlin. But if you didn't know, now you do! The tool currently displays undergraduate courses for the Fall 2025 semester, but will update in early October to show Spring 2026 offerings in time for registration.
|
How does this new tool impact your website? |
At this time, you don't need to take any action to edit your website for this project. That said, you'll see some significant changes to your website.
|
-
The previous course exploration tools on department/program websites were unpublished. Prior to the launch of this tool, each department/program website had their own "Course Landing Page." When we transitioned away from WUCRSL and into Workday Student, those pages no longer worked and were unpublished by the A&S Web team.
-
A link to the A&S Course Explorer tool is now featured in the main menus of all department/programs. On the left-hand side of your main menu, there is a section of links in smaller, golden text known as the Secondary Menu. In that section, you should now see a link to the A&S Course Explorer.
|
How does this new tool impact your student audiences? Do you need to do anything? |
It's important to note that this changes how students will explore course offerings. Instead of visiting the individual department/program sites that they are interested in, undergraduate students will be able to view all course offerings across departments in one centralized location on the main A&S website. When you have a moment, I recommend taking the following actions:
|
-
Familiarize yourself with the new tool. In case you end up fielding questions about it, click around the tool to see how it works. Specifically, try using the "Search by A&S Program of Study" feature and select a major/minor in your program to see upcoming offerings! Unlike the current version of Workday Student, this tool allows students to easily identify course sections offered in a given semester that count for specific A&S undergraduate programs of study and IQ curricular requirements.
-
Talk with your department/program about announcing this tool to your student audiences ahead of Spring 2026 registration. This tool will be an extremely helpful resource to our students - but only if they know about it! There are broader efforts to communicate this tool to students, but consider sending an email encouraging them to use this tool when registering for the Spring semester. Consider a message like the following, which Public Health & Society included in their most recent newsletter:
-
"Arts & Sciences has created a new Course Explorer tool that allows all students, faculty, and staff to easily identify course sections offered in a given semester that count for specific A&S undergraduate programs of study and IQ curricular requirements. If you have questions about this new tool and how to use it to find PH&S courses, please reach out to us!"

Stay Up-to-Date on Drupal 10 Developments |
As you get a handle on our new content management system, it's a good idea to stay in the know about new developments and ongoing issues. Important developments will come straight to your inbox from the A&S Web team, but it can sometimes be difficult to keep track of the bigger picture.
To that end, the A&S Web team maintains a really useful webpage you should check-out: "Website Announcements, Fixes, & Known Issues." The A&S Web team compiles all of their announcements and known-issues on this page for your convenience. So, consider reviewing it and, perhaps, even consider adding a bookmark to it for quick reference!
