Bena Arao, Director of Academic Affairs Resources, Retires
After 18 years at Sacramento State, Dr. Bena Arao, Director of Academic Affairs Resources, is retiring.
Dr. Arao began his career at Sacramento State as the director of administration in Facilities Management, where he supported significant campus growth through numerous capital projects. In this role, he was responsible for the fiscal health of the largest department within Administration and Business Affairs. He later served as ABA’s senior director for Resource Management, where he revitalized Sac State’s Organizational Learning and Development Department, expanding the services and functions for the benefit of the entire campus.
Dr. Arao was instrumental in the growth and success of ABA’s Sustainability & Energy team and championed the Space Management Office, offering invaluable insights on numerous special projects such as the Classroom Furniture Project, which enhances the classroom-learning environment by modernizing the furniture in each classroom at the University every summer. His active involvement in various committees and initiatives has significantly advanced the University's mission. Notably, as the lead for the Junior Olympic Event Committee, Dr. Arao successfully organized the 2019 USA Track & Field Junior Olympics, bringing national attention to our campus. Dr. Arao enhanced campus safety and compliance through his participation in the Clery Compliance Team. His dedication to promoting global perspectives was evident in his role on the Internationalization Committee, fostering international education and cultural exchange.
Dr. Arao's extensive knowledge of our facilities, budget, and campus operations, coupled with his broad network of colleagues, made him an invaluable advisor to many. His leadership, characterized by effective communication, strategic influence, and the ability to maintain high morale, has profoundly impacted many members of the campus community. His strategic thinking, considerate management, and expertise were essential in creating improved operational effectiveness and fostering a collegial culture.
