KU Health & Wellness Student Design Competition
The faculty of the KU Health & Wellness program announce the 2026 Student Design Competition “Creating Healthy Environments Using Principles of Nature.”
Students in both the architecture and design departments are encouraged to submit design solutions. Cash prizes of $1,000, $500 and $300 will be awarded to the top three projects.
The winning designs will be presented at the Health & Wellness Symposium on February 23. Please refer to the attached flyer for the competition details.

SMITHGROUP Design A Better Future Scholarship
We created the SmithGroup Design a Better Future scholarship program to put action to our mission to create a better future for our communities. This scholarship program provides tuition assistance and professional opportunities to students who demonstrate commitment to advancing inclusion in the design industry. Each year, five students who demonstrate a commitment to advancing an inclusive design industry are selected to receive a one-time award of $6,000 in tuition support. Recipients selected also receive a paid summer internship at any one of SmithGroup’s locations offering the student’s discipline (internship is a program requirement).

AIA Kansas 2025 College Scholarship
AIA Kansas will be offering two $1000 scholarships for 2025. There will be one scholarship offered to one architect student at KU. The funds will be awarded for the Spring 2026 semester.

Hart Howerton Travel Fellowship
Named by Architectural Digest as “one of the Fellowship programs paving the way for the future of architecture,” the Hart Howerton Fellowship is open to undergraduate and graduate students in planning, architecture, landscape architecture, and interior design who will be entering their final year of study. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Fellowship, celebrating two decades of supporting future design leaders. Fellows have the opportunity to pursue independent travel and research on a topic of their choice alongside a summer internship in Hart Howerton’s New York or San Francisco office.

Field Workshop 2026: Designing for Adaptation in a Time of Prolonged Drought
The Field Workshop is a three-week immersive fellowship that follows the Rio Grande from its headwaters in Colorado’s San Luis Valley into northern New Mexico’s Taos Plateau. The program brings together a diverse cohort of emerging scientists, designers, policy thinkers, and artists to explore urgent questions of land, water, and culture in a time of prolonged drought.
Participants learn directly in the field alongside regional partners - including farmers, conservation districts, and Indigenous and pueblo communities - while co-developing applied projects that support ecological and community resilience.
The program is open to graduate students and early-career professionals from across disciplines including ecology, hydrology, agriculture, design, planning, architecture, the arts, humanities, social sciences, policy, and law.
