Here are the top “5 Things to Know” this week:

-
Please continue to refer to W&M’s Federal Guidelines web page for updated information and resources regarding federal and state policy changes that impact higher education. If you have specific questions, your department’s leadership can assist in navigating next steps.
-
Today marks the beginning of the midterm grading period. Please be sure to enter grades and other necessary information so that students can take appropriate action for a successful semester.
-
Earlier today, I sent a note with details about W&M’s upcoming Homecoming & Reunion Weekend festivities. Remember to register and enjoy these wonderful campus traditions.
-
The Plumeri Award for Faculty Excellence and the Plumeri Award for Athletics Leadership Excellence recognize and reward the outstanding faculty, coaches, and Athletics staff whose contributions and accomplishments help to define excellence at William & Mary. The application period for the 2026 awards is open through Monday, October 20, 2025.

This week’s shoutout goes to the VIMS Center for Coastal Resources Management and the William & Mary Batten School for Coastal & Marine Sciences for their efforts in helping the university reach the goal of a carbon-neutral campus by 2030. This VIMS Center recently installed solar panels to power its 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 SE EV, which replaced two older gasoline vehicles, for use in advisory service, education, and research. The solar power generation, including CO2 emissions saved and equivalent trees planted, is monitored in real time. Incredible!
