Internal Notification and Preproposal Due Dates for NSF’s MRI and ESPCoR Collaborations Opportunities |
The National Science Foundation’s Major Research Instrumentation, or MRI, and the EPSCoR Research Infrastructure Improvement-Focused EPSCoR Collaborations — RII-FEC, formerly EPSCoR Track 2 — funding opportunities are both limited submission programs, restricting the number of proposals that K-State can submit to each program. So that the Office of Research Development, or ORD, can make sure that our institution does not go over the number of allowed submissions, ORD requires that you notify us via ordlimitedsubs@k-state.edu with a working title, team list, short synopsis before a certain date if you are interested in either of these programs. If there are more interested groups than there are submission slots, our office holds an internal competition, requiring the submission of preproposals, to determine which groups can go forward.

New Annual Malign Foreign Talent Recruitment Program Certification for PIs/co-PIs |
The U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) is providing this correspondence to inform organizations, and Authorized Organizational Representatives, of a new annual certification requirement for Principal Investigators (PIs) and co-Principal Investigators (co-PIs) regarding Malign Foreign Talent Recruitment Programs (MFTRP).
Starting on June 7, 2025, in accordance with the NSF Proposal and Award Policies and Procedures Guide (PAPPG) Chapter II.D.1.e(ii), all PIs or co-PIs named on an NSF award made on or after May 20, 2024, must certify annually in Research.gov that they are not party to a MFTRP. Individuals who are currently a party to a MFTRP are not eligible to serve as senior/key personnel on an NSF proposal or on any NSF award made on or after May 20, 2024. NSF is providing notification of this new requirement to impacted PIs and co-PIs.
What you need to know about completing the required MFTRP certification in Research.gov:
|
-
There is no organizational certification requirement, the certification requirement is for PIs and co-PIs.
- Impacted PIs and co-PIs will be prompted to complete the MFTRP certification after signing into Research.gov using the Sign In link at the top of www.Research.gov.
-
PIs and co-PIs with more than one active award made on or after May 20, 2024, are only required to certify once, annually.
- Once completed, PIs and co-PIs can view their MFTRP certification response under the Academic/Professional Information section of their profile.
-
NSF is working to expand the MFTRP annual certification requirement for all senior/key personnel roles at a future date. Additionally, NSF is working to provide organizations with access to the annual certifications.
-
Please see PAPPG Chapter II.D.1.d(ix) for information about Authorized Organizational Representative (AOR) responsibilities regarding senior/key personnel MFTRP certifications.
-
Frequently Asked Questions and MFTRP contract examples will be available on the MFTRP section of the Office of the Chief of Research Security Strategy and Policy website shortly.
|
If you have any questions about this requirement, please contact researchsecurity@nsf.gov for additional guidance. System-related questions should be directed to the NSF IT Service Desk at 1-800-381-1532 (7:00 AM - 9:00 PM ET; Monday - Friday except federal holidays) or to the Research.gov team rgov@nsf.gov.

First Look at the cosmos with NSF–DOE Vera C. Rubin Observatory |
Save the date! NSF-DOE Vera C. Rubin Observatory will unveil its first imagery on June 23, 2025. Watch the livestream and be among the first to see how Rubin Observatory will soon capture the cosmos.
Rubin Observatory is jointly funded by the U.S. National Science Foundation and the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Science.
Named in honor of pioneering astronomer Vera C. Rubin, NSF-DOE Rubin Observatory will create a time-lapse view of the universe unlike any other by recording every visible change in the southern sky with unparalleled completeness, detail and speed. Rubin Observatory is expected to yield a staggering number of new discoveries: over 17 billion Milky Way stars, about 20 billion galaxies and around 10 million supernovas (over a thousand per night), plus millions of asteroids and untold numbers of comets and interstellar objects.

Forum on Cyber Resilience |
The Forum on Cyber Resilience serves as an independent, trusted venue in which experts from industry, academia, and government can work collaboratively to explore emerging critical challenges related to the security, trustworthiness, and resilience of the nation's computing, communications systems, and critical infrastructures. Blending expertise in technology, policy, national security, and the law, the Forum convenes senior representatives and serves both as a readily available source of insight and expertise and as a body committed to anticipating and thinking about future trends. Forum activities inform stakeholders through convenings, dialogues, and published workshop summaries and through engagements with consensus study committees.
We invite you to submit suggestions for experts to participate in this activity. The call for experts closes on July 8, 2025.

2025 Virtual Space Biosciences Training Course: STAR |
NASA invites applications for the 6th cohort of the Spaceflight Technology, Applications, and Research (STAR) virtual training focused on the science and technology behind biological experiments in space. STAR is designed to encourage networking and collaborations in spaceflight technologies, applications, and research across all areas interested in space and biological sciences. This course aims to facilitate the entry of researchers into space biology and preparation for spaceflight experiments using NASA and commercial platforms. The STAR course will cover both fundamental and applied aspects of the field of space biology, as well as practical aspects of preparing for, conducting, and analyzing the results of spaceflight experiments.
The STAR-6 Application uses the Request for Information (RFI) response structure in the NASA Solicitation and Proposal Integrated Review and Evaluation System (NSPIRES). The full text of the STAR RFI, including application submission instructions, can be found here. Responses must be submitted electronically using the NSPIRES web site.
Submitting a STAR application does not guarantee course acceptance. NASA does not award funding for course participation nor otherwise pay for the information solicited. Applicants who are accepted will be notified via email on or after July 31, 2025. Declined applicants will also be notified. The course will take place virtually from September 2025 – February 2026 (estimate) with sessions held weekly for two hours each. The STAR course is subject to cancellation at any time, even after notification of acceptance.
