Recent cyberattacks on municipal water systems across the United States have renewed concerns about the cybersecurity of the operational technology that supports critical infrastructure.

For researchers in Georgia Tech's Cyber-Physical Security (CPSec) Lab, however, the vulnerabilities behind many of these incidents are far from new.

Modern hospitals may have thousands of network-connected medical devices that do everything from monitoring patients’ hearts to infusing lifesaving drugs. Protecting those devices from cybersecurity attacks is a time-consuming task for information security (InfoSec) staffs at every hospital.

Two of Georgia Tech’s newest assistant professors spent most of the summer taking the scenic route to their new home in Atlanta. Year after year, some of the world’s best hackers gather at DEF CON in Las Vegas to put their skills to the test. None is more prominent than the annual Capture the Flag (CTF) competition, where elite cybersecurity teams compete to find vulnerabilities, exploit systems, and defend their own infrastructure.

This year, Team Blue Water – which features nine Georgia Tech participants –came out on top after three days of intense competition.
